Has the decanter ever been knocked previously?
My in laws had a glass chopping board explode when no=one was in the room. Apparently it is possible for glass to be damaged but the breakage occur at a later point.
Yep I've seen that happen with quite ornate glass tumbler- shattered to bits on the shelf in a cupboard. Nobody near it.
Also a plastic handle of my umbrella. Made a loud crack and half flew in the air while I was walking through a train station. Saw it shooting up in the air. Hope it didn't land on someone! A physics teacher said there would have been an internal crack that would have been under stress and then suddenly fail. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
Out-of-date chocolate. Yeah, that'll happen. It's like those recipes to use up leftover wine.
Reminds me of Poppy9's weekly menu back in the day!
We have left over wine. Someeople freeze it in ice cube trays, I never need to go that far, we cook with it in time.0 -

That must be it.
Perhaps the lack of heating in your house is subjecting your decanters to something like freeze-thaw erosion? Not that it's cold at night at the moment.
Either that or gremlins.0 -

GBD, that was precisely by reaction. It screams, "who, me?" cat-dom....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

The thought of cats crawling over things I'd be drinking from has put me off them even more.
Been on one of the duck tours and thought it was great! But didn't realise how accident-prone they are.:(
Everybody should take a tourist tour around their home town/city I reckon.
Just had a moment when the penny drops. I like listening to music, but I failed to spot that an NPs username had musical connections (well contemporary ones at any rate).
As regards food lasting I've heard that mints keep for ages and can be eaten decades after they're made. Never tried to do that of course so feel free to try it yourself and pass on the good news about your survival!:DThere is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

I've kept meaning to take one of the duck tours, they look great fun, and I'm sure Isaac'd love it.
Do you listen only to pop-type music in all its different incarnations, or classical as well? My real name has some musical connetations, but my parents didn't realise it until I was 19 (-:

I don't use sugar very often. My first bag of white sugar (well sealed in airtight container) lasted about 15 years. I've had my current bag since I moved in about 6 years ago.
It is only used when I have guests round who have sugar in their tea or coffee and most of my relatives either don't drink hot drinks or don't take sugar. So if you ever get an invite to casatifosi... you have been warned. Nobody has reported food poisoining yet though:o.
I have just found this website, so feel happy to continue with my strange sugar practices:

They are fun, when they're not on fire.
I don't like classical music much. I'm from a musical family but as regards inheriting any talent, well let's just say I'd be great at the UN because if I hummed the national anthem people from every country would stand up.;)
I had the good fortune to grow up in a time when music was interesting. It's so pleasant to see so many branches of music continuing and evolving. But I'm not into poetry so no rap for me.There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

Decanter about fifteen years old, maybe a bit less, no knock (I.e. no cat foot prints in the dust) was fine on Friday might as was found like this on Saturday morning
I saw that and thought.....
