Silvercar, people's reactions would probably be to care for you and want to help. (Much like ours)

    But....

A lot of focus is going to be on her needs now and I beg you to remember YOURS and those of your husband and sons in the midst of that. Poor her, but also, we care for you.

OH is being very supportive and very firm. He insisted on coming with today, whereas usually he avoids these trips.

The timing makes no sense, she has just had a procedure to relieve one area of pain and was (we thought) looking forward to coming away with us. The plan was then for her to stay with her sister (who lives overseas) for a break.
She also paid a couple of days ago to upgrade her flight to be more comfortable. Money that is now lost.

Now she insists that she is still able to travel, but we have said not. So she has to explain all this to her sister, who definitely will be upset.

OH insists that we are going away and she isn't coming!

I can't believe you two haven't met. Not that I have met ndg but it would seem natural that you both should have met sooner.

(that sounded weird and stalkerish but you know what I meant)

That's the bit I couldn't get my head round. Lir and NDG were the neutral voices that saw both sides of the argument and calmed the testosterone fuelled early days of the board. It's so strange that they are among the last to meet.

I taught her that; I gave her tips.

Please plan yourself something fun, and preferably utterly frivolous, as a reward.

I have to go back yonder West when I have finished + slept a bit to pick up my tent and other camping paraphernalia as I am taking myself (via the train) to the IoW on Tuesday. I am looking forward to not being glued to a screen. I plan to pitch my tent, then crawl inside my sleeping bag and emerge after a looooong sleep.

. So I think any discussion about what the NHS should and shouldn't fund has to be honest and admit that it's fundamentally about allocation of resources, uncomfortable as that may feel, and not about some kind of moral superiority of life-saving treatments over other things. (I do agree the postcode element is dreadful.)

    .

    Well....
Yes. And...sort of. Considering I am also in favour of small fees for front line health care ( up to a limit) I think those cover the cheap, and the cheap actually supplements the expensive in some drug cases...

I have three particular difficulties with General fertility funding. One specific to 'people like me' and not relevant to most people needing it. Thank goodness. And the others not necessary to discuss at sensitive times for two nice people.

Omg, I think I just learned when to shut up!

Awful. Mine said "I just wanna ...." at one Dr visit late one night.
Nothing you can do as you're in the grey area.
You can't take responsibility 24/7; when you're not there you'll worry.... and, it's her "choice" if she decides to leave where she is now and you'd never know.

The whole "choice" thing now starts to beat you as everything's their "choice" - my mum has "choice" even though she's ga-ga and not choosing anything, but simply seizing ideas that she thinks other people want to hear, or because any choice is the only one she can think of.

I even had to change her dinner orders in hospital as she wasn't choosing the right ones for what she likes. But it was her "choice" to choose her lunch from the list - so she ticked something...... and I'd check and pick the right one.

Tbf, we did it in very different ways.

NDG with reasoned argument debate, insightful points well made and wit.

I just acted offered to get my tits out for the boys if they shut up.

Turn shower on in bathroom (window is already closed) and shut door.
Wait a few minutes for bathroom to become hot and steamy while bedroom remains unaffected.
    Have shower.
You wasteful oik! Think of the planet.

I go into the bathroom and open the window, pull down the blind, get in the shower cubicle, take the head out of the holster and point it into the corner of the shower, turn the shower on and wiggle the head about until the water splashes tell me it's warm (3-5 seconds), return shower head to holster, shower, get out, rub down with Towel-1; hang Towel-1 over hook, wrap Towel-2 round me. Lift blind so any bit of steam can get out of the window.
