Missk - I hope you haven't got a weekend of going into the lab planned. I think you need to do something nice and non-work related this weekend.
I promise to do something nice and non work related if you inform us of when you're submitting the evil thesis
but actually, i've bought some trashy books on my kindle and we're going to london tomorrow and going for brunch on sunday.0 -

Isaac was pretty well behaved most of the time, but he'd been promised Roman Stuff, so after lunch, and ice-cream (parental bribary to shut him up, but it worked!) he felt the time had come. I suppose he did invite you to join us, so it wasn't all rude.
So Isaac was designated, by me, as a 12 year old. He'd have felt it a real swizz to be excluded altogether.
We were the only people in the 18th century thermal bath for our alloted 90 minutes, and it was lovely - horribly expensive, though, £24 for 90 minutes max!
Overjoyed at being included in the same breath as the others.
As you have the power, could you designate me to be about 20 years younger?0 -
So it turns out that this wasn't an accidental overdose, but deliberate.
And the reason is that she doesn't want to be a burden to anyone else.
and she intends to try again as soon as she is released.
and she reckons she can convince the doctors to let her come home.
and she wants us to still take her abroad with us next week; she won't do anything there because she will be with people.
frustrated. angry. very angry.
Only good thing is she is in hospital now, so maybe a chance they will sort out all her meds.
the lovely thing about the nice people - you are the only people I can tell, other than close family. You are never quite sure of people's reactions to this sort of thing.

That sounds like an appropriately non-work weekend. Enjoy!
I expect I will be emailing on whatever I am calling 'my thesis' late tomorrow evening. I will of course announce it on here.
I'd just say - I'll let you all know what happens after that. I know that I am pushing it by emailing so late (they did say end of Aug and nothing more specific... ), and by not having send anything to my supervisor as I've been going along. So I won't be suprised if I'm told I won't be allowed to formally submit and it is game over.
It's not about that any more - it's just about having written 'a thesis'.0 -

. I went off the leaf one though I still like the shape. DH would like a copper one, but they are all that sit up shape.....no good, no good. I still fancy some sort of open plan possibility between bathroom and bedroom, but I'm thinking now of something like old bi fold shutter doors,. (My architect hates this idea,I feel the need to defend his reputation)
Open plan bedroom/bathroom would not suit me. I like to be warm, but naturally I don't want my house being damaged by condesation. So for most of the year my routine is like this:
Get up
Turn shower on in bathroom (window is already closed) and shut door.
Wait a few minutes for bathroom to become hot and steamy while bedroom remains unaffected.
Have shower.
Open velux window in bathroom (at roof level and neither visible nor accessible from road).
Return to bedroom, shutting the door.
Go to work or do whatever I'm doing all day.
Come home. Bathroom is condensation-free but cold. Bedroom is coolish because of only having a thin door between it and cold bathroom.
Shut bathroom velux window. Bathroom and bedroom both start to warm up a bit.
Evening happens.
Brush teeth etc in warm bathroom.
Go to bed in warm bedroom.neverdespairgirl wrote: »Isaac and I had a lovely time in Bath, and a wonderful lunch with LIR (who is absolutely as glamourous and fun as I thought she would be, but not as scary as I feared).
Isaac behaved reasonably well, until he disgraced himself a while after lunch by saying, "I've had enough talking now. Can we go?"
DS, DD and I went out for lunch with my aunt today. DS behaved pretty well (occasional rudeness to his sister). DD was fidgetty and would keep getting up from the table despite repeatedly being told not to.I also realised I need to remind them that when somebody takes you out for a meal, particularly a much older person who isn't actually your grandparent, you do not ask for stuff (eg pudding), you wait to be offered it.
Mercifully my aunt, a veteran of 5 kids, 8 grandkids and 2 great-grandkids with more on the way, was understanding. Either she genuinely thought they'd behaved reasonably well, or she loves me enough to pretend to think so!
Perhaps it is only me, but I think they look better before. Like women really.
I had mixed feelings. Some of the after pictures looked better to me, but some worse - too heavy.
All this conversation about eyebrows is making me wonder if I ought to be doing anything about mine. My mother never did anything to hers. (She didn't wear any make-up apart from face powder, ever.) Some time in my late teens I asked someone what the deal was with plucking eyebrows, pencilling them, etc. She looked at me and said "forget it, yours don't need it", so I've left them to their own devices since then. Looking at them this evening, though, I am struck by the realisation that their inner halves are thicker than they used to be whereas the outer halves are becoming sparse. Maybe I should no longer be ignoring them.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
um. silvercar. perhaps some professional counselling? I'm not sure what else to say except big hugs to you0

I almost spat out my drink then.
I haven't had a shower since yesterday (morning), and am dressed in my finest slob clothes. I'm sure I have an air of something about me, but it's definitely not pulled together anythingness
In winter I am usually wearing pjs since the heating business,:D0 -
Silvercar, people's reactions would probably be to care for you and want to help. (Much like ours)
But....
A lot of focus is going to be on her needs now and I beg you to remember YOURS and those of your husband and sons in the midst of that. Poor her, but also, we care for you.0 -
If she sent a bottle of this it would definitely go on eBay!

Is this made from butterfly tears or printer ink or something even more extravagant. :eek:There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0
