Here's the rant.....
As a FTB with a good salary (30K) and good deposit (30K) I have finally been priced out of the market for the area I live in (Christchurch/ Bournemouth). All I want is a nice little 2 bed place with a private garden, but now all I can afford is a grotty 1 bed flat in an over-developed area, and this ridiculous further rise in property prices has happened in the past year!! (this time last year I could have afforded what I want, however this time last year my dear mother was alive and therefore I had no deposit together from the sale of her house recently).
So THAT'S IT! I'm OUT of this stupid game!!! Good luck to the suckers who intend to continue to work their assess off to afford a leasehold cupboard! Ha ha, skit! and no sympathy whatsoever from me IF there's a house market crash (I personally don't think there will be, but I'll be laughing the loudest if there is)!!
Meanwhile I'm taking my deposit and booking myself a damn good luxury holiday. :j My late mother would have wanted me to be happy, and a holiday will do just that! Then I'm gonna go buy a whole new wardrobe, and perhaps throw a couple of parties. Life is for living right? Well being a frugal-boring-old-paying-60%-of-my-salary-on-a-mortgage isn't what I call living!
And finally I feel relaxed!.... Off you all go now little ratties, carry on with your big important race!

I agree with you for not getting in the housing market, but why be nasty to other people, most of whom only was a bit of security for their families?
Most buyers out there are not deliberately pushing up prices and they aren't greedy.
They just want what you want - a home.
Personally if I was out of property right now then I'd stay out.
As it is, it would be quite an upheaval for me to move and quite high cost so I'd rather stay where I am and repay the mortgage even though there is some risk of a correction or crash.0 -
flippin heck this is the first time I've looked on this board-
have a nice time spending your £30k and we'll all be seeing you on DFW when its all gone & more!!! :rolleyes:0 -
This was my exact same atitude a couple of years ago, and we had great fun0
-
Who is pushing up prices then? (I'll answer my own question, but feel free to add) It's FTB's who feel they HAVE to get onto the housing ladder, with help from parents releasing equity in houses for deposit, it's BTL landlords, It's vendors who, understandably, want to make more money, and it's EA's who want to make more profit.. oh and I haven't forgotten Mr Developer who wants to buy your 2X2m garden to build a block of flats in there, and the vendors (again) who will sell this small piece of land to make more money) .. any I've missed??
Who benefits from higher house prices, other than those who already own?
So you're right lissyloo, it's not buyers who are greedy, it's this whole country who are collectively turning the place into a 'Have' and 'Have-not' society. I'm a have not, but after my decision recently, bet I'm much much happier than some of the 'Haves'.
Yeah I'll be flying the flag on DFW, but it'll be a flag with a huge happy face on it! Memories and good fun times have now become heaps more important than owning my own little shed.
Cheers ALL!0 -

FWIW Fimonkey I think you are doing the right thing. I just CANNOT see what is VFM in bournemouth market at the mo, bloody madness.
life is for living VERY DEFINATELY!
Dont blow all your cash thoif it does dip a bit which Im certain in bournemouth it has to, you might want to pick up a little bargain ( if such things exist any more LOL)
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Enjoy your spending spree fimonkey!
You may not be here tomorrow, and everyday you are getting older so go out and enjoy yourself!
If i didnt have two lovely daughters to consider me and the wife would sell all that we own and take our healthy house deposit overseas with us and travel.
So goodluck!0 -
? VFM??
The thing about Bournemouth and Christchurch is that it will always atttract the ever-longer-living-elderly population, so there'll always be a demand for property down here... just not from me!! Hurrah!
Thanks manhatten. Seeing as I have no dependants, I will indeed do just that!
Nelly, I've just spent 4K on a trip to NZ, I'll certainly, and very easily, amke my way through 25K (and leave 5K in the bank for htat 3 months salary safety net I remember reading about once)0 -
Good luck Fimonkey - hope you have fun!
Send us a postcard!"Mrs. Pench, you've won the car contest, would you like a triumph spitfire or 3000 in cash?" He smiled.
Mrs. Pench took the money. "What will you do with it all? Not that it's any of my business," he giggled.
"I think I'll become an alcoholic," said Betty.0
