  • Well done BA! That's just fab!! Wish i had one mate like u! Have a great night out!!

I've been slacking mostly last week! Went out on a stag weekend. Came back last night nursing a hangover! Woke up early this morning and hit the gym, so hoping to be good until end of this month.

Frustatingly, I'm hitting a low after every few weeks of good run. The only good thing is low lasts only few days to a week max. Does anyone have tips to avoid this???

    Have a good day all!

hiya mindspace hon, where to on the stag weekend? not amsterdam!!!:rotfl:
Hope a good weekend was had by all.
Re the running, are you giving yourself enough rest periods in between runs? do you do manual work or have a bad nights sleep? it sounds to me asthough your body is "burning out", either through exercising too much in a short space of time, your body not being able to recouperate through having a manual job/not getting enough sleep, or dietry related.

Try to leave a rest period of atleast 18 hours between exercise and have one full day off per week, also alternating the types of exercise can help ie running one day, gym the next etc.

Eat lots of carbs to keep energy up and rest lots to.

    It happens to us all

The best advise is to vary your training. I am always trying to find new routes and sometimes I got out with the intention of running for a set amount of time without a clue where I am going to go.

I sometimes run my regular routes the other way round

I hop on a bus and then run back home. Not a good idea in winter though.

Sometimes I run back from work. This takes a bit of preparation though.

I try not to run at the same speed or on the same terrain everytime by building in some speed or hill work into my training.

Also I find other forms of exercise are good for a change - A swim or a long hike helps keep things fresh

I enjoy running by myself but running with a mate or with people from the running club helps.

Hope some of these ideas help

    Good luck with your running

  • Hi People! Where have you all been??? Our thread has been pushed to page 21:rotfl: ! Hope you all had a good weekend!

Thanks pania and cneolj! I work as a beancounter and spend most of my day going though spreadsheets by the computer. May be it may be down to my laziness and had very less sleep! Will try to imbibe the tips you provided into daily life.

Very pleased about last week's training though!:j clocked up 25 miles during the week and feeling much better. Hopefully, this week should be good as well. Going to gym after work today.

How about you guys???? I think everyone must have been on holidays at once!!! or busy with work?

    C Ya later!!!!

I have not visited MSE for ages - I let myself go backwards in my DFW quest but am back now (since yesterday) and making amends.

On the Running front not sure if I joined the group or not. But I am doing the Great North Run this weekend and looking forward to it!

    Good thanks.

I will probably do a 10k in Southend in a couple of weeks.

Still finding training a bit difficult after my bout of flu so I need to have something to aim for.

As I am still determined to run the London Marathon I need to have these interim goals in place

Hello everyone, it's a long time since I posted on here but I thought I'd have a pathetic little boast: I can now run 20 minutes without stopping. I think I covered more than 2 miles as well.

I've done 10 weeks of the beginners' course I signed up to and it's been brilliant. There are only two weeks left, at the end of which we should run 3 miles in 25 minutes. Then I have to join the real running club, which is a very scary prospect.

I'm so glad I did it - and this thread really encouraged me at the beginning - so thanks everyone for being inspiring.
