Morning Hypno - sounds like your fall was even nastier than you let on - so rest up and let it heal or might end up straining a muscle too - right thats you told this morning!

Still feeling a bit bluergh so going out for the 10 miler on my way home work tonight as I enjoyed that on weds.

Well done JJ (ot JP tee hee) and Ukevas for your improvements :D

And some nice rain running Chick - thats part of the reason I wear contacts - I hate glasses in the rain ;)

Have fun with your OH this weekend!

Oooo Rich are you getting excited about Sunday?? I know I am :D

I'm not sure if it was the fall itself, or DS then falling over me that did the most damage!! He is as tall and heavy as I am so I think between us we got all bases covered!!! He isn't complaining of bruising though, so I think I cushioned his fall nicely

Hope you feel less bleurgh as the day goes on, becky x

    Week20
    Mon12/1 Rest Day
    Tues13/1 3 x 1 mile Intervals (6:27, 6:28, 6:38) (Average 6:31) (Pulse 122)
    Weds14/1 10 Miles 1:29:06 (8:55/mile) (Pulse 88)
    Thurs15/1 Rest Day
    Fri16/1 10K 56:31 (9:07/mile) (Pulse 80)

Very gentle this morning to ease down towards Sunday and give these muscles every chance to rejuvenate in time.

Hehe I've also eventually managed to sink to Becky's level! (pulse wise of course, I couldn't possibly sink that low in any other respect!:p :p:p )

    (Whoops, I'm in trouble now :o:o )

And, yes I am looking forward to Sunday, Becky. 10 miles is actually my favourite distance, and I haven't done a 10 mile road race for absolutely ages!

Hypno - just let everything mend and you'll be fine.:D There's no point in running if its uncomfortable, or even painful, so just rest.

Nope you're not in trouble - I am officially the measure of bad taste and always take the possible opportunity to lower the tone - speaking of which its almost worth taking the cramped nasty tube more often to work - wow hot dudes a plenty today :D

Well done on the nice gentle run Rich - I'm hopnig for a pulse 80 tonight for my 10 miler and also to win the euromillions :D

Hypno - thats because he fell on you - smart boy putting you between the pavement and himself! ;)
  • Phew, got away with that one!:D :D

And behave yourself, Becky - its not even as though you can blame it on endorphins - you aint been for a run yet!:p

Good luck on Sunday Rich & Becky. I hope you both have a great race and get the times you're hoping for. I don't know how you guys manage to run on such low pulses. I have stopped using my HRM because it made me feel like I was too unfit  . (Becky - did you check your pulse whilst you were eyeing up the talent on the tube this morning? ;) )

Hypno, sorry to hear about your bruises. Stay at home and let yourself heal. (We still want to see your blisters though :p )

No I should have...not there was much room even to breath - but hey it gets you closer to the hot dudes so not all bad ;)

My pulse has always been low (as has my blood pressure) I dont think it matters what it is - its more the trend you should be looking at - me and Rich are just a bit abnormal I think - my occassional running friends is way higher than mine and I wouldnt say he was that much more unfit than me...

(wow I'm waffling again today - sorry guys)!
  • Well I've always had a low pulse and a low IQ - I wonder if there's a link?:p :p

  • There cant be a link rich as i always run with a high pulse and not a lot of grey matter in my head LOL.
Well thats what the wife says when she sees me getting ready for a run at 8.30pm, so often calls me mad/crazy which ever comes to mind first.
I really enjoyed the night running last night, the weather was just right a bit of strong breese depending on which street i run down but it was nice to cool me down. And i thought i was running slower than usual but checked my watch and found my pace to be quicker than i thought it was, which was a nice little boost, and the 100m sprint at the end up my street was good to finish with the heart really pumping.

Hi, I hope you don't mind me joining in? I have been reading your thread for quite a while and have just plucked up the courage to post.
My mum sadly passed away last August. A few weeks later an old friend who I had lost touch with, bumped into my husband and found out about my mother. Anyway, she started stalking me (in a nice way) and we met up for coffee. I have gained quite a bit of weight since we last saw each other and we got to talking about this. She has done a lot of running in the past and asked me if I would be interested in training with her for the Race for Life 5K in May. I kind of laughed but agreed, thinking that I would not like it as I never have enjoyed running before and that I could back out after a few sessions.
Anyway, we started in October - 1st evening out was lashing down with rain. We did walk 5 mins warm up, run 1, walk 1 x 5 - OMG it nearly killed me! I had no idea how unfit I was! We continued our training 3 x per week - Mon, Wed & Fri mornings following the race for life Reebok walk run walk training plan. This is a 6 week plan which you should then follow with the 6 week run plan. Unfortunately, during the 4th week I started to experience a dull pain in my right leg - starting at the ankle and working it's way up to the middle of my shin. I ignored it but it just got worse and by the end of week 5 I was in real pain but continued running because it seemed to ease after running for about 8 mins. However, one I stopped running it was straight back and boy was it sore. Everyone had an opinion on what it was - shin splints. I read up on the condition and certainly it did seem possible but I'm not a dr. I took the advice - took Ibruben, iced it and elevated the leg. Over Xmas I was not able to run and was gutted.
We started running again 3 weeks ago and are revisiting the 1st 6 weeks training. I am however getting a niggling pain in the same spot each time I run and am terrifed that the same problem is returning! Is there any way to aviod this? We have changed the warm up to 10 mins - with gentle stretches after 8 mins. After the run I am spending a long time ensuring good stretching but I don't know if this is helping.
I am enjoying the running so much - I would never have believed on that 1st evening back in October that 6 weeks later I would be running for 2 x 15 mins during 1 seesion with only 1 min recovery. For me that is amazing. :D
I am overweight and this is helping me - the motivation not to eat crap after having a run is brilliant.
