well i don't have an event or a date to aim for but i would like to lose a stone (to start with) and be able to jog much further i am not bothered how fast i jog just the distance really.
So my aim is to lose a stone and get fitter!
Well, I am getting fitter - I must be, because I can go much much further and quite a bit quicker than I could do when I started in October.......so you will be fine on that front as long as you keep taking that first step out of the door on cold winter's day!
Re the weight loss - Rich has lost loooooads.
And I haven't.......I think I am changing shape but it is not reflected in the scales. I don't suppose the number of biscuits I have eaten does any real good in that direction, but basically I think what I am trying to say (apart from don't eat biscuits!) is don't put too much emphasis on the weight - look at your shape/how your clothes fit as more of an indicator at this stage!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. Yeah I've lost 1.5 stones as well people
But I was a lazy b***er before so I suspect its shock - my body's not used to using so many calories - I burn around a 100 a mile and do up to (nearly) 40 miles a week so thats 4,000 calories a week extra, plus the small increase in metabolism post run as well - so its definitely possible to lose weight without trying0 -
ive put on weight but thats because im a greedy !!!!!!
Ask me in 15 weeks again whether I have lost any weight...I hope it will be at least 1 stone too!I'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....

Me too.......! Shall I take a set of scales to London then we can have an immediate post race weigh-in? That might be the only time I show a weight loss.......before I drink a bottle of water and put it all back on again :rotfl:Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. Hi Ukevas and welcome :hello: - we're not ignoring you just pretty early to bed around here for all our early morning running
Unfortunately I have jet lag so cannot sleep again :rolleyes:
Its great you want to get back into running - I would start with a solid base of walking for a few weeks first because it will help build up your muscle strength and burns as much fat as running anyway, once you've got going it really helps motivation if you identify a goal you want to achieve (a race, a time or distance or something else)
Any questions you have - Rich is the resident Guru
Happy running - dont forget to come tell us all about it!0 -
Hi Ukevas,
Gently does it and you'll soon start feeling fitter.
Its always easier if you've been fit before so you should start making progress relatively early.
As for my plans today, it was going to be the first 20 miler. However, that has now been abandoned and a rest day will be had instead, followed by the normal rest day tomorrow.
The problem is that, due to sleeping in an awkward position:rolleyes: , I've managed to pull a muscle in my lower back. When walking, every so often a pain shoots down my right leg.
It doesn't feel particularly serious and I could probably get the 20 miles done but I have no need to push my luck so will rest instead.
Bacon sarnie time......:D
Good luck to everyone running today!Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Morning back from my "jog"
Figuered i would start out with 1.5 Miles to get rid of the cob webbs plus this is the Army fitness test distance that you do every year ( or used to but im sure they still cover this distance )
From memorey my best time over the distance was 9min 50s...:T
so I can give you the shocking result of 13m 26s from this mornings effects  best part of 3.30 mins to find
I will get my excuse's in early and blame it on a stiff head wind and a 151m accent in the first 0.3 of a mile. Hope you are all enjoying your runs if your on them at the min... looking forward to joining you for 10k's before 7.00am soon :T
Also I put my name in the hat for the GNR hope i get a place will give me great motivation. Plus the great Yorkshire Run 10k is two weeks before the GNR which would be a great warm up to the GNR.. again all depends if i get in the GNR... then perhaps London 2010 Maraton  again if i get in ... :rotfl:
anyway enough ranting from me.. but it felt good to be on the roads again. ( even if it was just for a short distance )Cabbage Patch 09 - 10m - 1hr 06mLeicester 09 -1/2 - 1h 26m0 -
9 min miling isnt bad, especially as a 'jogging' pace with little undulations!
Just forget about pace anyway, the biggest mistake made is to push untrained, or de-trained, muscles beyond what they're comfortable with, so it looks like you're taking a sensible approach!
