Do you always get people that can run at a staggering pace or is it a nice mix on these races?
jj - these are the results for the 10K race that Chickadee and myself did last Sunday, it should give you an idea of the spread of abilities!

And when did you start running in the mornings? A while back you marvelled at how we (me, becky etc.) did the early morning run and now that it's freezing dark January, you've joined the ranks of the 6am-ers! Or were the mornings before not cold and dark enough for a Yorkshire man to bother with? Also, are you still an OV?
Well its started when I had a residential training course in Newcastle for the first 2 weeks of December. Since we were being plied with copious free drinks every evening the only way I was going to get any training done was going to be at the start of the day.
I knew the steady runs would be fine at an early hour, but after doing an interval session and a time trial I was a little surprised that there was no fall off in performance at the top end at all. That has been subsequently confirmed with sessions since - so I'm a convert!:D
Am I still an OV? Well, since the original OV was 'Obese Veteran' then no! Not even an 'Overweight Veteran', but I suppose you might say that 'Old Veteran' was a possibilty although I'm one of the youngest veterans around so I'm not even sure about that!
There's plenty more 'O's in the dictionary though!!:pGt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Fri9/1 10K 52:04 (Pulse 94) (8:24/mile)
Boy, what a relief that 10K was!:D
Yesterday morning I was leapt at by an over-friendly BIG dog. As I went backwards my right knee landed very painfully and as a result I was limping throughout the day.
It did ease off as the day went on, but I was still expecting the worst this morning. It felt okay during stretching but I was still preparing for running a few strides and turning back.
Fortunately, it seems to be strong enough and so I'm reasonably confident that no real damage has been done.
That will be confirmed if it gets through tomorrow's 5K race and Sunday's first big '20' in one piece. Of course, either or both of those sessions will be dropped without hesitation if I suspect any problems.
Have a great day everyone, and watch out for those friendly dogs - its not the dangerous ones that pose the most risk, its the big, sloppy affectionate ones!:p

You've got to have a dream...If you don't have a dream...how do you expect to have a dream come truu-uuu-uuuee!
Just a rough idea, really, as a "target for this year" - training PB is under 50 mins now, so you'd like to think (once I get back into shape following xmas) a 45min race time isn't too unrealistic. So, by the end of the year, I'd have thought 40 mins was doable - otherwise I won't have made a whole lot of progress...0
