So the list goes on, and now it becomes....
Wk 4
Mon 30th Dec - 2.5miles in under 30mins (a run when away)
Sun 4th Jan - 2.97miles in under 30mins (reduced times due to pain in left leg)
Tue 6th Jan - 9.04 beep test (fail)
Wed 7th Jan - 3.1miles in 27mins 35secs (increased the step & pace)
Last night, we out for a run when i got back. Picked the usual 3mile route which was road / grass as it was a smooth running surface than the other pavement route which is pretty uneven.
Started off at the usual pace, and soon decided that my step was too short, and the pace was too slow at the increased step length, so that soon changed. 12mins later im struggling to keep the pace up due to pain in the back of the legs, so walked for about 35secs, was at the half way point anyway. From there, a nice 2 part sprint with the old pace and step back home as legs were really heavy now.
It was good to get out last night, think i might have gone a little too fast as when i got home i was weazing which is pretty rare for me. I have a cold at the moment, so maybe tied into that.
Roll on friday when ill do it again, and sunday push out a longer route at the same pace.0 -
jj - I think you're right in terms of you only have to try it once and you can really see the benefits of getting out early. And that is now, imagine how pleasant 6am running will be in Summer!:D
Hypno - glad you're feeling relatively unscathed after yesterday's excellent run. It does sound a little tricky finding early morning time for any running, although adoption is always an option!:p (Quickly runs away and hides:o ).
Alias - well done on keeping the consistency going. Hopefully the little niggles and aches will ease off shortly.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

More and more club runners are just getting together and having their own competitive 10Ks or half marathons on a Sunday morning. If 20 runners get together to do their own thing they can save upwards of £500 between them and still get an accurate hard race, so they become a lot more choosy about which official races they enter. If entry fees were still £3-£5, which they should be, then this trend wouldn't be happening imvho of course!!
Having said that, if you got a momento like we did on Sunday at every race you would feel comfortable with fees up to about £10 I suppose!
You're right, as always
When I did the swansea 10k, it was a little more than I'd have liked, but at least it included a teeshirt - as far as I can tell the reading one's £28.50 without a tee, which just seems bonkers. Think the other two halves I'll be entering are 10-15, which seems almost reasonable, but if you do 2 or 3 per month, it soon adds up..0 -
I was already peeved with the entry fees that I've just paid, but that £28.50 is just taking the proverbial!
I cringed at paying £16 for the Dewsbury 10K. This is the simplest course to organise and police being a 5k run along a straight, flat road and back again. There will be about 1200 runners yielding something like £19,200. The expenses will be minimal and wont make much of a dent in that income. But what does a local club need that sort of money for?
On the other hand, I have entered the Spen 20, which includes the Yorkshire 20 mile championship. This is run over a course which takes quite a lot of marshalling as there is very little in the way of repeated sections. It will also have a much smaller field, probably 2-300, because it is an extremely tough race with about 4,000ft of ascent/descent. And the entry fee for this? £7!
So a 20 mile race can be organised quite happily on an income of maybe £2k whereas a much easier to organise 10K needs an income of ten times that level. Somebody is being taken for a ride!!!:rolleyes:Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Having never entered a race yet im in shock at how much you guys pay just to run. I think it stinks that they can charge that much.
Do you always get people that can run at a staggering pace or is it a nice mix on these races?Running Club5KM - 25:20(51.21%) 10KM - 53:40(50.26%)1/2 Marathon - 2.14.57(44.20%)Marathon 5:11:00 (40.78%)0 -
I have always done early morning runs..well since March last year and especially over the summer as it was light and much easier to get out then. Its become harder to heave myself out of bed in the morning when its dark over the winter but yes Rich I feel safer running in the morning when its dark than in the evening.
Well done everyone for good runsI'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....

Thanks for the training plan ROD, I'll keep you up to date on progress. I'm not sure if I'm starting as slowly as I thought, my last run might have just been shaking off the cobwebs. I played 5-a-side football last night and was fine for that. And "too many beer tins" would be an apt user name for me right now. I'm having a "no booze" January, with the exception of my birthday on the 14th. Need to give my liver a chance to purge the evil from my December indulgence.
And when did you start running in the mornings? A while back you marvelled at how we (me, becky etc.) did the early morning run and now that it's freezing dark January, you've joined the ranks of the 6am-ers! Or were the mornings before not cold and dark enough for a Yorkshire man to bother with? Also, are you still an OV?
The plan may need to be tweaked to allow for a different Half Marathon, £28.50 is outrageous. I know we're all tight MSEers, but there are races for half that amount or less.Running Club targets 20105KM - 21:00 21:55 (59.19%)10KM - 44:00 --:-- (0%)Half-Marathon - 1:45:00 HIT! 1:43:08 (57.84%)Marathon - 3:45:00 --:-- (0%)0 -
One of the biggest costs for any race is the cost to the police etc for having roads closed i gather. I think this might be the case for the Dewsbury 10k, i seem to have a vague recollection of someone mentioning this to me.
The Great Noth Run is one of the biggest rip off's in that its £42 for the 2009 i gather.Debt free Nerd number 1122 LBM Jan 2009 Debt @ LBM £40,086.88 (14/01/09)

Had to collect a parcel from post office today (well it was today i went) and beings its a mile away and also just off one my usual running routes i tagged it onto a nice easy run. 5 miles in 45 mins isn't exactly a easy run, its in the awful smack between long run and tempo pace but never mind.
Pretty much bang target to do 1000 miles this year, although it is early days yet and i was actually looking at a september date for clocking the 1000th mile originally.Debt free Nerd number 1122 LBM Jan 2009 Debt @ LBM £40,086.88 (14/01/09)

Just got back from my compulasry curcuit training that i have to do, and blxxdy hell it was hard after the 5km this morning, it didnt help that it had lots of running in the curcuit as well probably about 2km just going round in circles in the gym aswell as doing exercise inbetween. I could feel all my muscles aching and getting tight the more i did. But after a good long stretch i feel a lot better and hopefully will still be able to get out in the morning for another 5km!Running Club5KM - 25:20(51.21%) 10KM - 53:40(50.26%)1/2 Marathon - 2.14.57(44.20%)Marathon 5:11:00 (40.78%)0
