Happy New Year everyone and thanks for the good luck wishes for the 10k this morning. Im due to set off at about 9.30 with the race at 11, so plenty of time for waking up and coffee beforehand! The weather is dry, not icy and not too windy here, so hopefully it will be the same in Wymondham.....I will do my best, and if I am not sub 60, I am sure I won't be far off - I have set my virtual running partner on my garmin so hopefully will keep me from setting off far too fast!

Hope you all have a good day x

I'm back - 10k (well, my garmin says slightly more at 6.25 miles) in 60 mins 27 seconds so very close......

So, looking at the positives -
    • first mile, although too fast in retrospect, was 9.08 - my fastest mile so far
    • average per mile 9.40 which over a reasonable distance is the best performance I have had
    • It was a hilly course, and had there not been a killer hill at 9k, I may have got in under the hour
    • I have another 6 miles under my belt.
There is another 10k on 15th Feb and another on Good Friday - so at one or other of those, I WILL get under the hour.......

Going for a hot bath now............

And I'm certainly looking forward to the 'mini-meet' with Sherpa Chickadee and Serpa OH!:p

We don't climb mountains all of the time Rich!

I'm looking forward to it too, although OH thinks its 'weird'! We'll be easy to spot, being the only Preston Harriers there for certain (Harriers don't tend to travel too far afield). Blue vest with a red & white band. Blond girl with glasses and bald bloke. OH ran just under 43 mins for a 10k last week so he might be chasing you Rich!

I went out this morning for a run, but it was hard work. Note to self - don't drink a glass of grapefruit juice just before a run - it won't be comfortable. Still, just over 6 miles in 58 mins so not too bad. I had only just got up too, which is never my best running time.

Becky, if you read this whilst you are away, have a great time. Enjoy Central Park - you might bump into Madonna, I hear she runs there when she is in NY!

Hypno, fantastic performance for your first 10K. Well done! As you say, the course was hilly so on a flat course you would be sure to come in under 60. Even so, you were only just outside it and this must be your best so far so well done on your new PB!

30DB, what a brilliant achievement. You have done really well losing the weight and getting fitter. There is no turning back now!

And finally, HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone! Hope it turns out to be a healthy and fit one for us all, and that we all achieve our goals, whatever they may be.

A good run, chickadee - especially for an early morning! I'm not good at that time either!

Although slightly disappointed at not being under the hour, I am realistic about my progress and think I have not done badly considering I was queen of 11 minute miles not long ago. Plus, it still give me something to aim for, and I only have to knock off 5 seconds a mile.........:D

Well that certainly made up for last night's (copious) beers!:p :p

Hypno - fantastic effort!:D By my reckoning that extra 0.04 miles was worth, erm, 28 seconds. So that means you did 59:59!;) What d'ya think?

Chickadee - nice training run which suggests you're well set for a good time on Sunday. I agree that there probably wont be too many Preston Harriers wandering around Brighouse on a cold Sunday morning, so you should be relatively easy to spot. I'll be the one scrounging around for safety pins, with it being my first road race in 3 years I'm bound to forget!:p :p

Becky - Glad you arrived safely. Have fun in New York, you should be able to hone your skills for avoiding, erm, larger pedestrians while you're there!:p

Rich that is another excellent long run from you.

I am desperately going to have to stop these fast starts - if anyone has any ideas how to do so, I will be very grateful.

My mile splits for this morning were:

    9.08
    9.25
    9.55
    10.07
    9.38
    9.55

When what I need is 9.35 constantly..........surely the above splits show that I CAN do it, if I can only get it right

Hypno - that is what races are all about. I defy anyone not to go off too quickly, when you are surrounded by people all eager to get started, many of them faster than you anyway. It is part of the buzz of the race. Enjoy!
