  • Hypno - I have a feeling you're going to have a '59' time at Wymondham! It just feels on the cards. Just pretend all those other people aren't there and that you're starting out on a training run!:D :D

It seems that Sky News missed the breaking news yesterday that a Man Utd fan actually travelled to Manchester - its not like them to miss big news like that!:p :p

I know its soooo unfair - my cousin had tickets to the middlesborough match and had hospitality :( - I couldnt even afford a ticket sadly - when I'm debt free thats the first thing I'm going to buy :D
  • I forgot to mention that while I was doing the intervals yesterday at the track I witnessed a cringeworthy sight.

There was a father and son (about 12 year old).

The father was certainly no stranger to the sweet trolley (or the pie shop:p ) and the son was very round as well.

The kid just didn't want to be there but the father kept sending him to do a lap and hollering at him the whole way round with stupid phrases like 'Lift those knees', 'Don't be lazy', 'Don't be a quitter', 'Go, go, go' and the one that took the biscuit, 'There's no need to cry!'

You could tell that the kid was close to collapse with the way his knees just seemed to keep giving way underneath him. But, even before he had got his breath back he was sent off again to do another lap.

This was nothing short of child cruelty in my book and will have gone a long way towards putting the kid off running, and maybe sport in general, for life!

To make matters worse the father insisted on standing smack in the middle of lane 1 (and partly lane 2 since he was a little large) while I was doing my intervals and just didn't seem to care!

I did make a comment to him that I thought the kid had had enough but he just laughed thinking it was some sort of joke!

It makes you wonder how many parents like this there are out there!

Its sad but he was probably only trying to do his best for the kid in a stupid kind of way. My son plays footy and some of the other team managers were similar to this. They would scream at the lads and criticize them instead of encouraging them. It was painful to watch their little demoralised faces, and these were kids of eight or nine. Sometimes people forget that it's only a game.

My children do a lot of sport and we often see pushy parents which is always cringeworthy - what gets me is when the parents try to tell the coaches or instructors what they should be doing - now if anyone were to try and tell me how to do my job, I wouldn't be too happy, and most of the coaches etc at sports clubs are voluntary and doing it for the love of their sport, so they certainly don't deserve that sort of "input", when most of the time the child doesn't even want to be there.

I love the fact that my two do sport, but would never make them do it - for a start, it costs me so much money and time that I would actually be happy to back off a bit!

Anyway, just because a child doesn't like sport as a child means nothing - look at me, I hated Cross country running at school, and now I am something close to an elite athlete :D

Actually Hypno at school I hated running and I've hated exercise pretty much all my life - my mother thinks I've caught something in London because now I cant stop running :D

Its soo cruel though to make a child do something like running if they are *ahem* chubby - its really bad for the joints and the bones wont be fully developed - much better to do something like bike riding which is non weight bearing and just as good for aerobic exercise...

    Mon29/12 Rest Day
    Tues30/12 3 x 1mile (6:28, 6:26, 6:21) (Avge 6:25) (Pulse 128)
    Weds31/12 10K 47:05 (Pulse 122) (7:35/mile) (Pennine 10K Course)

Chickadee course report - Its not as bad as it might first appear, although the start is c-r-a-z-y!!:p It is so steep I can't see any point in holding yourself back, it would take more energy to do that than just let yourself go.

So the first 5K is great, then you turn left into the hill and tbh, although the hill does go and and on, it is only the first 400m or so which is a lung buster and the rest is quite gentle. So you need to slow down before the 5K mark and just get through that little section and then its fine.

On equal effort the first 5K (with no uphill) was 23:23 and the second 5K (with all the uphill) was 23:42, so its not so bad and the fast finish seems to make up for the hill.

So, in summary, nothing to worry about - you should have a fair chance of beating that 57 mins!

    I honestly don't know!

On a flat 10K now I'd be hoping for 41:00 to 41:30. I cant quite work out what that course was worth because of the hills, but I suppose something like 43 minutes would be a goodish result.

But I'm doing the 5K the day before as well and I really want to get that to sub 21:00 first!

Should be an interesting weekend!:D :D

And I'm certainly looking forward to the 'mini-meet' with Sherpa Chickadee and Serpa OH!:p
