Great effort, Hypno - just what the doctor ordered. Did it feel nice and comfortable? If so, that is a good indication of how even your comfortable pace has improved significantly.:D

That is a 'feel good', endorphin producing type run as well so I bet you feel great!:D :D

As anyone who has been out this morning will know it was pretty chilly! The race started with the temp at -1c and by the end of the race had risen to a tropical 0c! But it is winter after all!

Pleased enough with the way the race went and the time was about what I expected. The first 5K was the fastest so far at 20:40 due to the nett downhill nature of the start and the overall time of 43:21 was the fastest 10K so far (previous best 45:58).

The next 10K race will be in 4 weeks time, and is completely flat, so is now earmarked as the first 10K to be run in a time beginning with a '3'.

Congratulations to a beaming Chickadee on a superb race. I wont steal her thunder but I can assure you that she is more than a little pleased!:D :D . It was great to meet Chickadee and her OH, Jonathan, who unfortunately had to hold the coats today due to the calf problem mentioned yesterday, but I'm sure he'll be back pounding the roads shortly!

We were all agreed that the race momento was probably the best we've had from a road race - a weighty glass block with a hologram of a runner embedded, a collectible piece which will feature on Antiques Roadshow c2080!:p

Yes, it felt fine - I even contemplated doing another lap, but each lap is about 25mins and we had to go out at 10.30 so I would have ended up worrying about whether I was giving myself enough time to get out on time.

So, I am perfectly happy with this morning - even quite enjoyed the earliness of the hour (started at 7.30) but won't be getting up to do a becky any time soon!

Have you done your 10k yet? If so, how did you get on?

Thats good to hear - just by easing off your appetite for distance has increased significantly.

More runs like that and you will definitely acquire the strength to go well under 60 minutes for 10K!:D

I think I am going to just try and do one additional lap each week (each lap is just over 2 miles) so that by the middle of Febuary I should be up to that 20 mile run. It doesn't sound too scary if I am only talking about an extra lap at a time!

And my mid week runs will continue to be between 4 and 6 miles I think for the moment, because of the time pressures of being a busy working mum of two incredibly active teenagers that need transporting all over the bloomin country for their own sport!!! Next weekend DS is at Welwyn Garden City, so I have to decide whether to reschedule my long run for another day, or to risk getting lost by going for a run when he is training.........I think the reschedule might be a better option!

I am working up the courage to go and buy some new running shoes - mine are like bricks now - not surprising, really, as they have given me almost 4 years of use, so I have had my money's worth, but the thought of spending money is quite terrifying :rotfl:

You must be getting somewhere if the thought of spending money is more terrifying than a 20 mile run!:p :p

You sound well motivated after that run, so I'm sure you'll just get stronger and stronger now. Once distance runs are in double figures the ability to increase distance accelerates quite quickly so you should be able to manage your plan!:D

There are two 20 mile races fairly locally - one on 22nd Feb, and one on 8th March - I think that I will be ready for the March one, but probably not the February one.........Obviously not going to "race" them, but it is probably the best way of getting the long distance in because water stations will be there etc.......

So that is my next aim - 20 miles comfortably (!) for the beginning of March.

Cool this is a nice thread to join having recently joined the site. Currently having a few slices of toast and a drink before disappeaing out for the first run if the new year. No idea how far i'll go as i'm returning from a hip problem. Ideally over 10 miles would be nice although i doubt i'll go mad as i wont be carrying any drink with me, not really needed in this temperature for me.

Will figure out what my goals for the year are when i return but in the meantime i'm happy to see there is a running club here.
