My first continuous 10K was 75 minutes about 9 weeks ago. This was after a 2 year lay off but I have run for years, so to do that on your first continuous 10K really is quite something!

Ooooh, oooh, there is hope for me yet - my first 10k was 72 mins 6 weeks ago............I could be catching you rich :rotfl:

  • Thanks for all the encouragement it does mean alot to me, i now feel as though i have achieved something now by completeing the 10k, i was so knackered once i finished but that soon went, when i realised what i had just done. I think ill be going out over the weekend but keep it to a slow 5k just to get the stiffness out of my legs and hips.

I hope you do - the more competition the better!:D :D

Its already getting quite fierce - there will be a point when we all do the same 10K and have a real ding donger!!:p

But, seriously 75 minutes to 45 minutes in 9 weeks with most work being very steady runs is how it should go. The thing that hinders progress is always doing too many hard runs!

Hi Alias! Just remeber to take the slightly longer distances easy the first few times - I found it a real shock the first time I did 5.25 - its was soooo painful :D

Dont forget you can map out your runs and check the distances with www.mapmyrun.com - takes all the guesswork out it!

    Happy running!

Thanks for that Rich, steady runs are the future ;) . I have had a week of steady runs this week, much better than last week, which was a week of non-runs. The steady kind are much better!

This week has been Mon - track 4 x 800m; Wed - 4m steady; Thurs - 6.5m steady (you see the pattern emerging?) Original plans for this weekend won't be going ahead as we are heading off to the Peak District for some walking, eating and drinking. I'm sure the walking will be of the steady variety :p .

Next week my ladies running group are having a run to look at the best of the Christmas lights. Approx 4.5 miles with plenty of time built in for oooh's and aaah's. Coffee and mince pies to finish. Mmmmm. Very festive! :xmastree:

    Have a good weekend everyone.

That sounds real nice. Wish I lived somewhere like that. Round here it would be:

    2 mile run,
    "Oh, is that it"
    2 mile run
Then I guess mince pies at least :D

See how i feel on sunday night, might not get home until about 7-30pm, then by the time i get changed and out it could be 8pm, so a 30min run is probably all i can manage in-between seeing the kids, and the wife inc getting to bed early to be up for 5am to travel to work.

Lovely drizzly day for a steady 10K.

New running partner was impressive though considering the course is rather undulating and she normally runs on the flat - a 57 minute steady 10K is very commendable.

So a rather lazy week due to obvious 'seasonal factors' but what has been lacking in quantity has been made up for in quality (or at least thats my excuse :p ).

A 10 miler is planned for tomorrow to round the week off!

Happy wet, squelchy weekend running everyone!
