    Haven't touched base recently.

I am shaking off the flu for the second time this year. I think I am going to have to take another look at life style issue. Diet, sleep and vitamins etc. I know that my shift work does not help at all

I have got my application form for the London Marathon and I want to enter. However I dont want to get into the same position as before and do all the training only to be unwell again.

Anyway must keep positive. Well done everyone else for keeping it up!

Hi all, and welcome along Debby :hello: I know what you mean about running outside, I've only fairly recently started doing that as opposed to going on the treadmill, and I did find it a bit nervewracking at first.. it does get better once you've been out a couple of times though, there's so many people doing it that I'm sure nobody really notices! I'm a bit restricted when it comes to times - sometimes go early morning when it's mostly other runners about round here, and sometimes after work which avoids the school kids but is still quite a busy time, I try to stick to quiet-ish streets but not too quiet.

Sorry for the lack of input this week, I've been out twice, Tues and Thurs, about three miles each (got soaked on Thursday :( ). Lovely day today but hangover is dictating that I stay on the sofa... will hopefully get out again tomorrow.

Hi Red Squirrel :D Thanks for the encouragement, it really does help. I am very impressed with your three miles !! Wow ! Can't imagine I'll ever get to that stage! Hope the hangover soon passes - enjoy your sofa day in the meantime

Don't worry about others most of them are just jealous! Unfortunately there are always those who make comments but to be honest I don't even acknowledge them, they have no influence on my life so they can just s*d off. My DH gets beeped at by white van men, don't know whether thats funny or just odd!

No runs for me for a couple of days DH (not really darling at mo), my 2 brothers and dad decided that all yesterday afternoon and today they're off drinking and playing snooker. Apparently they think DH is under the thumb. Ha, we have always been independent and just checked that we not out too often (I haven't been out with friends since March). Nevermind that they don't have any responsibilities i.e. no kids, 1 brother in army, dad retired. Am seriously !!!!ed off with them today.

DH spent £40 last night and bound to again today, am getting fed up of my trying to be careful and him just blowing it.

Sorry to rant on and not even about running, hopefully will get out for 4 miler tomorrow might just go early so he has to look after DD that would be good for a hangover:rotfl:

Thanks evab - I do think your right about being jealous, after all - I am jealous of the peeps I see out there jogging 'cos I'm wishing I could be less self-conscious and join in !
Sorry to hear about DH probs - that must be very frustrating for you but I like the idea of leaving him to see to DD while you run - that would be a very fitting punishment :T

    Hi Debby

The quietest time is definitely early morning, and it's lovely to be out then and feel you're the only person on the planet. Evenings there are more people around but to be honest I think you're mostly invisible, nobody has given me a second look.

Another question to ask - well a couple really :)

What sort of clothes do you wear for running ? I don't have any 'running gear' particularly so was going to wear normal jogging bottom thingys and a t-shirt. I only have standard trainers too but I do intend to purchase some proper running shoes if I do manage to overcome the embarrassment thing and take it up properly. I don't want to pay out loads for something that might end up being just a fad.

Also, I would want to take my keys and mobile with me (for safety) but not sure where I'm supposed to put them when running  Do you have bum bags or something like that

Sorry for all the silly Q's :D

HI Debby, I just wear normal jogging bottoms and a t-shirt. I did buy some proper trainers for £50 but not sure this was really necessary at my level. I carry my keys in my pocket.

Don't apologise for silly Qs, I've agonised over these things too!

HI wear shorts or 3/4 length tights and a t-shirt, I put my mp3 and keys in a armband as I don't like carrying things in my hands or pocket

Yep that's what I wear (my jogging bottoms are pretty scruffy but I keep telling myself I don't need new ones ).. got some decent trainers which I got a couple of years back in Costco for a reasonable price. I usually wear a little lightweight zip up waterproof jacket over the top - especially with recent weather! - which has zipped pockets where I keep my keys and mobile. On the odd occasion it's hot this usually ends up tied round my waist but can get a bit annoying.

Evab - sorry to hear DH is being a pain, I too think that leaving him with DD when he's hungover is a good plan ;) And remember how good that 'angry running' energy is :p

Go for it. You can't live your life fearing illness, and if you're ill - so what? It's only a disappointment which you'll get over, whereas if you're well and you didn't go it'll be a regret which will live with you.
