How do you know what racing weight is Rich? Are you going on the lowest healthy BMI or what you think is right for you?

Oh and  hello all. Been at work since 4:30pm as we had a christmas shopping evening

Racing weight is wherever your appetite settles.

At the moment I consume 600-1000 calories a day while fat is being used, but when that has been used up calorie requirements will go up to 3,000 per day to maintain weight - but all regulated by appetite.

There's a point where you are at your strongest and for me that is just under 11 stone.

They are great for sugar though...I usually snack on them in my longer runs...maybe its just me!

Mmmm yorkie - I refuse to buy them now with that ridiculous sexist slogan - grrrr

So can I claim to be a racing weight already then and eat lots of choccie??

No problem then if you're used to them!

    Oh good, more for me!!!!:D:D

Well sort of, but didn't you say a couple of days ago that you were still a stone off racing weight?:p

    Well done Hypno :T

I did a 3 mile-ish plod this evening after work, still struggling to get motivated but at least am still getting out there I suppose. Hoping to get a long run in on Sunday.

3 mile-ish is good - the motivation will come and go over the next few months I am sure! It is a bit like debtbusting I reckon, some days it seems easy to get going, other days you feel like you have made no progress for ages etc

I found that my ipod picked all the songs that are crap to run to today - and it was quite demotivating! I need to get a running playlist together!

Ive no idea what my running weight will be as I can't imagine my appetite will ever settle on its own ;) I think if I get down to 8 stone that would be a good healthy weight and I should be able to knock a bit of time off, about 10%, amazingly my 10 min miles go to 9 min miles :)

  • Subjective signs of going below racing weight are:

    1. Increased effort sense for a given pace
    2. Decreased performance ability despite typically allocated rest
    3. Increased irritability and moodiness
    4. Decreased drive to train

In other words, after a certain point you are actually shedding muscle, and therefore strength, as opposed to fat.
