Wonder why the guiness book of records is taking so long to get back to you...maybe they are inundated with weird requests
But it is an official record as set in the GNR by Brendan Foster at 21,500. So a bit weird, but not as weird as growing 3km long toe nails or eating a 3 tonne steak and kidney pie.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Afternoon all!
Oh I hate not running in the morning I was soooo sluggish but still managed my 4.5 in 40 minutes - just an easy run to warm up for Sundays attempt at 1.52 for 12!!!
Yeah my American friend reckons you should replace your trainers every 200 miles - if you're made of money matey was my response!!!
I've had mine since starting on 16th June and I did 15 miles a week for a month then up to 30 which I've pretty much maintained so I'm at 5 x 15 plus 17 times 30 = 600 miles and my trainers are fine (but filthy)...
I'm going to buy some new ones in NY though0 -
I'm asking for new trainers for my xmas... was going to be GHD's but my mind says trainers would be better use of the funds....!
there's something i never thought i would say.......I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -
I shall have a look after Christmas and see if I can get another pair exactly the same as I have as I expect they will be in the saleI'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....

I've got round patches on both fore foot footstrike areas which have worn through every layer of the sole except the last thin layer.
But they're not holes yet - so some good mileage left yet.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Where is everyone this evening?? I'm having a rare friday in and you're all off doing stuff!!
Nice trainers Maz - have you bought them yet?
Okay so questions for coachie:
1. how do you pass people at the start of a large race without going under/over you usual race pace??
2. how many mile does it take roughly for the LM to thin out so I can run comfortably?
3. You mentioned sit ups and press ups - how many should I be doing a day??
Any other coachie advice you want to impart today?
Thanks0 -

Friday nights doing stuff? Whatever next?
Oooo good questions, you've been thinking this thing trough.
1. Not something that is as much of a problem as you would think. If you're in a starting slot of less than about 3-30 you'll pretty much get running straight away, albeit a bit of a shuffle at the beginning but you'll be running freely within quarter of a mile. There's no need to fight through crowds of runners because a slowish first mile is just what the doctor ordered anyway. At the very back it takes about 20 minutes to clear the start line.
2. Ooo, already done that one!
3. Sit ups are good to help your knee lift and give you a toned stomach, so doing some is a good move - about 20 per day gets a reasonable result. Press ups are a nightmare, nobody likes them but 10-20 per day will help prevent your arms and shoulders feel like they're dropping off towards the end of a marathon.
Other coachie advice? Well there's:
1. Stop gorging on chocolate when you think nobody's looking!;)
2. Get a watch!
3. In the LM follow the blue line once you can find it!
4. Try and create some space for yourself before a drinks station, once you get there its too late and can get very messy. And after the drinks station be very careful on all the discarded wet bottles and cups - of course the faster you are the less of a problem this is!
Is that enough?Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

OK, back from my run.........
I did my 3.8 miles but it is actually 3.73miles according to my garmin. I have been trying to get under 40 mins for the last few weeks, and I finally did it:
38 mins 40 seconds which is 10:23 per mile...........:j
BUT, it was hard work and my HR was 169 according to the Garmin which sounds ridiculously high! Starting HR was 70-74.
So......am I going ok, or am I trying to run before I can walk and should I go back to my 11 min miles I seem to be so good at?Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0
