Isn't it uncomfortable running with that strapped to your back? Ive often thought about them but not sure it would suit me

I hate carrying a bottle and certainly don't need water for short distances at mo, camelbacks are great and easy to use.

Right see you guys later, have to take dd to school in her PJ's for Chldren in Need.

sorry, was just quoting the articles i found for reference for people... sorry sorry

Exactly, the emphasis was on it being a good article. Thats the kind of information that should be read rather than the rubbish in so called running magazines.

It didn't specify amounts, but considering a hard marathon involves about a litre of fluid usage, stating 'large volumes of fluid' was a bit misleading, but the rest was good information.

Since I often run with a little back pack for my work clothes etc anyway its no difference to me - the only thing I find is I'm a lot quicker without it...but I guess thats the added weight - which is good training anyway!

I hate carrying water too - although I naturally run with one fist clenched so I often put my water bottle in that hand so I dont get cramp in those fingers...

No worries Idio - I'm not buying it so it will be branded - cant decide between that and a platypus one at the moment but will send final instructions closer to xmas :)

Never uncomfortable, I have to say...the first couple of times out it felt..."odd", I guess is the best word, or "different", maybe...Honestly don't really notice it anymore, though, until i fancy some water :)...I, too, tend to run slower with it on - but I think that's more because I'm doing a 10+ run, rather than the bag itself :D

Anyway, did a gentle 6.4 today...first 3 miles i was with the people from work, all of whom are injured or ill in some fashion, so went *really* gently (9:35avg)...on my own after that, average pace (8:35ish) - stopped for a couple of minutes to chat to a friend, but still got round in under an hour...I've come a long way, methinks :)
  • Hi All,

Just done my second day of running,

You can see my run here:-

    http://sportstracker.nokia.com/nts/workoutdetail/index.do?id=525660

I did a bit further than Wednesday and I did it a bit quicker too.

My plan is to start off slowly, I intend to run Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and then doing a 30-40 minute walk on Tuesdays and Thursdays and Saturdays. Sunday will be a total rest day.

This week I planned my run to be run for 1 min, walk for 2.
Next week I'll be running for 1.5mins then walking for 2

And basically increasing the running period each week until I can complete the circuit without any walking. then I will start to increase the ciruit and try to improve on times. (Luckily I work by a very nice lake with many options for a jog)

To do this I have prerecorded a new sound track for each week with slow music for the walking and more uptempo beats for the running parts. this helps me keep to my times without worrying about clock watching :)

Does that sound like a fair approach to getting healthy but without causing injury?

    Cheers

    Good work

MK Does have some great locations for running, The only problem with the lakes though is that they get flooded easily which can throw off a planned route.

And not much of a problem during the winter months but the little water-flys that seem to be attracted to faces are a pest on a hot day. :)

Runners, eh? Always ill and injured!!:p

You're definitely finding faster paces more comfortable, which is a direct result of getting some distance running into your legs.

One of my mates just texted me and said I must be due a new pair of trainers before long. Now, I don't really think that's the case, but just wondering - what's the advice on trainers? Keep them for as long as they're in one piece? Change them after a certain distance? I've done about 250miles in mine now, but they still look pretty newish (albeit COVERED in mud lately) What about sorbawotsits? Do they ever need replacing?
