I've only been to Surrey once - its weird! Like all suburbs no actual countryside - but that was by Ascot and Winsdor

Is that where surrey is? Blimey, I've been there!

Personally, as a country bumpkin, the idea of running anywhere in London terrifies me beyond belief, all the people!

There's a lane round my way, I saw a Polish person down there once, am much to scared to go back there ;)

Seriously, though, not used to running with people around - when I did my 13 miler the other day, once I'd cleared my little village (2 miles), I saw 1 runner 4 miles, 3 cyclists around 6.5 miles, 3 walkers after 9miles, then was back to "civilisation" after about 11 - so I make that 7 people in 9 miles, something like that...Did, however, get briefly chased by a goose or swan (not good at my farmyard birds, especially when they're chasing me) at one point, so it's not like there was no excitement! :D

Oh well I went to spa day in Surrey and we went to both of those places...I dont know I dont drive I just got taken there...

I assume they are on the border though! ;)

I believe you are both right. Most of it is in Berkshire, but a few bits (north of the river) are in Surrey. It used to have 3 police forces (it may still); Surrey police, Thames Valley police and the Met (for Windsor Castle).

Even I know the difference between those! swan=pure white with a bit of black just before it's (orange) beak. Goose=several different colours.

I've looked them up on the internet now...Fairly sure it was a swan...it seems a much scarier thing to be chased by ;)
  • there is a great big Husky/Japanese Akita type dog that always comes to the gate and barks whenever i run on the road near my home.... it scares me witless everytime even when i know it's there!! animals are a nightmare when you're running.... but i don't suppose you get too much of that in towns/cities....

i prefer rural, much rather deal with the odd animal, rather than lots of people... people are scarier!
I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....

I know what you mean Idio - when they spread themselves out and achieve full height they are scary beasts.

I turned around and retraced my steps rather than trying to get past one (how cowardly is that?:p).

You're right there. It could easily break a child's arm if it got annoyed and do a fair bit of damage to an adult too.

Its funny I hate running in the countryside - and actually when I run there arent that many people so thats good - but there's always that knowledge that someone would be around if anything terrible happened!

Although saying that a woman got attacked in Bristol the other day :(

    Love the cygnet snags!
  • Today's session was planned as 3 x 1600m as the last 2 weeks.

However, the general idea of an interval session is to move in the right direction and the blustery gale that seems to have appeared didn't want me to do that!

It did strike me as a bit odd that part way through an interval the headwind had actually brought me to a halt, and was almost sending me backwards.

Somehow I managed to get one rep done in 7:27, but there was absolutely no point in carrying on so I just did an easy 4 as best I could.

Nevertheless, it did feel as though it was going to be a really good session today, ie well recovered from Sunday's 12 miler, so all the signs are positive.
