Chickadee - Just take a thought about how good you feel now and then imagine what you WILL feel like in 2 weeks time when your average time begins with a '7'.
I'm predicting now that that will happen!!!!Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Hey all... sorry for the late update but was kinda busy catching up when i got home...
runclub was pretty good.... managed 2.5 miles in 36minutes... without stopping so am pretty pleased actually given this is my first run since 19th October due to this silly cold... the breathing was good, the legs were pretty fine, a bit tired mid way round but not impossibly so... i ran with another plodder like me (runchum did not come, she is still not recovered from her cold which was worse than mine, by miles). Me n the woman i was running with just stuck to the back of the pack... because we were slower we missed sections and cut ahead of the others a couple of times, so enjoyed the feeling of not being at the back, while it lasted! we were soon overtaken again... .. but it didn't deter me, i just moved over and let the skinny minnies past!
at the end of the run we were walking back up to the centre and were heading up this steep footpath, it's an excellent stretch for your calves... but the wind was fierce and i actually was more breathless at the end of the hill than at any point when running!!! i was coughing like mad, i felt like a right fraud! as if i'd lied about feeling better!
anyhow, all positive for next run on wednesday! onwards and upwards....
it's nice to be back and reporting on some action!
i know my numbers are pants compared to you guys but it is all relative...!I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -
It all seems like gooblygook to me at the minute-didnt run today as my legs were hurting loads.
Will try tomottow.
What insoles do you speak of Rich??Empty pockets never held anyone back, only empty heads and empty hearts can do that -Peale0 -

hey beautiful bunstar!
better to give yourself a day to recover at least when you're new to this malarkey or just generally unfit like moi!
plus if you overload yourself, you will go off it and it will become a chore, twice/three times a week is plenty for our 10k planning... we have time on our side.......
Rich is a big advocate of sorbothane insoles, which basically reduce the shock and therefore the potential damage to the joints which can be caused by running on pavements especially..... google them... i'll try and find Rich's post on it too....
lots of people have them, i use them and they definitely help reduce the pain in feet for me, joints were less of an issue for me personally (touch wood n all that!)I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -

So this is it:
1. Go to largest sportsshoes retailer in the world (their description). (But why is it always empty?)
2. Go directly to 'Sales' section. (No passing Go and all that guff)
3. Quick scan of boxes eliminating anything with price tag over £30.
4. Select cheapest pair that comes in size 10. (Hopefully £10-£15)
5. Try on.
6. If comfy (which they always are), buy.
7. While sales assistant is ringing purchase through (and suggesting I might like a gait analysis, supinate, pronate blah bla blah) take shoes out of box and whip out insoles (I hate those that are glued in). Ask if bin handy and throw away insoles.
8. Put Sorbothane in.
9. Away I go. All done in as little as 2minutes (5 max).
Because the place is usually empty theres generally 4 young kids looking at me as though I'm a clueless imbecile ( I am, but thats not the point).
Its not as though shoes have an endorphin rating - I might take a bit longer if that was the case.
I've never had sore knees, ankle problems, hip problems etc so since I've done this at least twice a year for 25 years since I was 17 there can't be that much wrong with it.
So, what exactly is so weird about what I do? (Don't worry you won't hurt my feelings
)

Thanks Maz, (and Rich)
I shall investigate further...Empty pockets never held anyone back, only empty heads and empty hearts can do that -Peale0 -
Morning All!
In a very good mood today
(um whats new but hey),
One because Rich is making me feel young (tee hee) and two because I ran my scary hill run today in 40 minutes!!!!!!
I am ready to die now though, but I dont care - shot of endorphins anyone I have quite a lot to spare today.
Well done on Run club Maz, sounds like some good work there - going twice a week you'll see improvements in double quick time
Hope you get a run in today Bunny and dont be surprised if your legs are actually more sore today...it takes two days for my muscles to be at peak stiffness which is why I never have more than one rest day in a row - you run it out instead of it hurting too much :0.
Have good running everyone!

Morning all,
Did a 7.2 mile last night - 59:03
Could not get any time for running on the weekend so went last night. Do a 2.4 mile route from my house as all lit up and can run on pavement and felt good so did 3 laps.

Well done Hobs!! sounds like you are very discliplined to me!, and very fast too! wow!!!
I hate running loops of anything at all, i always get bummed when i have to run the same point twice, especially in a race environment (cause y'know i am such a highly trained athlete and have done 3RFL's and 10k in my 4 years as a not very runner!!) Y'know when you pass the finish but it's not the end, that just crucifies me psychologically....
Feeling good today after last nights efforts, meagre as they were in comparison... i think it will be my job on this thread to post realistic times distances for your average beginner coming to join us.... that can be my area of expertise... that and fat girl running!I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0
