You have been doing a lot of milage recently so you probably are just tired - perhaps not enough rest time in between? You are asking a lot of your body and sometimes your body says "enough". If you don't take any notice of it, then it will shout louder and louder until you are either injured or exhausted.

So, whilst it is a real shame you didn't race today, it is probably better that way. Give yourself a couple of days break and recharge your batteries - perhaps try some yoga or something instead which will ease the muscles and help the breathing?

Sounds like a fair excuse Chick. I remember having a week like this and Rich said I would come back stronger and quicker the next week...and I did. Draw a line under it and get back out there next week fresh and ready to go.

    Evening All!

Ooooo new peeps - hello! Join in and have fun - I only started running in June so I know that once you get the bug there's no going back :)

Okay two reports to make 5am Saturday run - all good excepts my usual route the gates were locked...so I went around a different way comes out at 5.5 miles instead of 6 but in 50 mins so I'm happy!

Todays run in Devon - ummmmm well I got lost, got very muddy and was a bit peed off by the rocks and the slippiness so no time records there - despite all this managed about 9 miles in about 1.20 so not too bad.

I am feeling good though - weighed myself for the first time in a month 9 stone 4 down from 10 stone 7 - woopie that is amazing! I feel great about that since losing weight wasnt really my goal and has just come as an accident, but because I dont have scales at home and its happened really gradually I didnt realise how much I'd lost!!!! :)

Sally - sorry to hear you knee's still niggling.

Chick - my body does that some times - especially when you've been asking a lot of it, just remember each traning session is a clean slate to start again and dont think about the last one - when you've had another good one you'll feel fine.

Poor I think you dont need to worry - you know you're well prepared and you should be tapering now anyway - I bet you're really excited about Jamaica!!!

Oh Rich - glanced at your post - but missed you 12 mile time...will go back and check in a mo...bet its amazing as usual!

Ur is that everyone? Oh evab - sounds like you're on the road to recovery and it won't be long now ;)

Wish I had better new to report but my training isn't going according to plan at the moment. Left work early on Friday to do my 8-mile run that I had planned, but when I set off I was OK for about the first mile, then I just couldn't get my breath. I was running into quite a decent wind, but I was quite worried. I couldn't catch my breath and my legs were sooooo heavy I could hardly lift them. I decided to cut short my run so I ended up doing about 5 miles. Didn't run yesterday and didn't do my planned 1/2 marathon race today either. Forced myself out to the gym early afternoon as by that time the weather had turned really nasty and did 7k on the treadmill in comfort (40mins). I only stopped because I had made arrangements to meet OH and was running out of time.

So what is that all about? Last weekend I ran 10 miles with ease, this week I can't even do 8! All I can put it down to is being tired after a hard week at work, but that sounds like a pathetic excuse.

    Any ideas anyone?

Chickadee - it is almost certainly just rest that is needed as Sally says.

Generally you ask 'Have I done anything different recently?'. Well yes you have, and we're talking about an activity that puts your body under a lot more stress, so it really is'nt that much of a surprise.

However, you've highlighted why taking the pulses after every run is such useful information. You learn approximately where your pulse should be for each type of run.

If you notice it is higher than it should be, you generally get two days advance warning that you are going to start feeling really tired. Instead of ploughing on for the next two days and depleting resources more, you can then ease back, or rest, to let the body do what it does to repair.

becky, that weight loss is amazing!!!! I am desperately trying to get the weight off, but it is just not happening! I am hoping that I will suddenly play "catch up" with the weight loss, and like you will suddenly find I am under 10 stone (currently 11 stone 2!!!).

Thanks Hypno - like I say it wasnt a goal for me as I've always been small, but its just happened (partly my appetite has reduced), but I suppose I've been burning off an extra 3000 calories a week or so which makes a huge difference!

My only worry now is getting fat after the marathon! I suspect i'll have to keep quite a bit of running up even to maintain ;)

Wow that is amazing! Running must really be one of the best activities for weight loss.

Pity about the Devon run. There is a race locally near me called "Muddy Bottoms". The route is different every year and you are given a set of instructions to follow. It takes you through streams, over fields and yes, you do get very muddy! Your Devon run sounds like it might have been a bit like it. :rotfl:

    15lbs weight loss - you're an amateur, girl!!:p

Then again you couldn't really lose 32lbs and still avoid falling through the cracks in the pavement, could you?;)

PS I think you will go better than 1-52 next week!
