Hi all!! just checking in to say hi and see how it is all going. well, I ran on saturday around thetford forest which is near to me. ran for aaages, got lost so ended up retracing our steps without realising we were nearly at the end!! It was almost 6 miles in the end I and my running partner were shattered!!!
Off out on anotehr tonight as my appointment has been postponed so will try to do about 4 miles if i can.
Right, advice needed if poss pleeeease!
When i run longer distances (4 miles+) my hands and fingers really swell. to the point that it hurts to clench my hand and make a fist. I'm pretty sure it is just fluid retention but its really annoying and uncomfortable. Is there any way of curing it does anyone know?
Anyway its really good to see so many people out there doing it! (oh er!)
Keep on running people!!! xxxxx
love n hugs

Hi P :hello: Well done on the run.
I got that with my hands when I was walking long distances - found this http://walking.about.com/cs/med/a/swollenhands.htm - which doesn't give any definitive answers but a few ideas.Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
I did my hilly 4 miles - it felt a whole lot better than I expected, to the point I almost enjoyed it  :rotfl:
I was glad I had had a rest day yesterday, though - I don't think my calves would have made quite so much of an effort if I had worked them yesterday!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. I get this sometimes. I call it sausage fingers, because that is exactly what they look like. :rotfl: Plump raw pork sausages. Nice.....
You are right, it is fluid retention and it is caused by the centrifugal force of swinging your arms that forces your lymphatic fluid to your extremities and prevents it from flowing back. Try running a few steps with your arms raised every now and again. Yes I know it looks silly, but it helps the fluid to return to your body. The swelling should disappear after a short time when you have stopped running. I'm not an expert of course. These are just my personal observations. If it is really a problem and doesn't go down soon after you stop running, go and see your GP.

I did the first of my track sessions tonight, following Coach Rich's plan. I have to say, I was much more focused and confident because I had a plan and knew what I was doing. It felt like I was *supposed* to be there, and I wasn't just an imposter. (Silly, I know.)
Anyway, I religiously did my 4 lap warm-up, then 3 x 1600m (9:06, 8:52, 9:02) and a 3-lap warm-down as I had to get back to the footy area to pick DS up. First interval I was just feeling my way, second I was pushing it, third - my legs were so heavy from yesterday. Now I know what to expect. Thanks Rich!
I was also in the company of the famous Helen Clitheroe, who was coaching hurdling to a group of university students. Ha ha, I have trained with an Olympic athlete. :rotfl: :rotfl:Sealed Pot Challenge #8 £341.90

Well done Chickadee!
You did that session well. Can you now see how the times are so accurately inter-related?
From your race time you were indicating an average of 8-55 for this session and you managed 9-00.
Thats actually better than it looks because of it being the day after a race, but as the times for these sessions come down you will know exactly how your 10K time is progressing - without running 10K!
And training with a pro - it will make you feel more serious just because you're in such company.
So it hasn't put you off then?Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Absolutely not! I loved it. It wasn't easy, but I guess this will be the session that contributes most to my speed improvement so I didn't expect it to be.
I'm sitting here now with that 'big lungs' feeling, so I'm very happy. Does anyone else get that or am I just weird? Maybe you just refer to it as an endorphin high, but when I have run hard, it seems to blow the cobwebs away and I really feel like I breathe better.
Rest day tomorrow, then an easy run Wednesday.
By the way, I have added a second sheet to my training plan to record my actual times for each of the sessions and notes of the route, etc. Am feeling very organised.Sealed Pot Challenge #8 £341.90
