    Morning.

Set off on my usual 4 miler this morning. First run for over 3 weeks, but my knee was feeling good... at least until about 5k into the run. It started protesting so I stopped immediately. I wasn't pushing too hard (pacing bang on 5 min Ks) so I don't know what it is. Will have to take it easy for a few more days, it really wasn't liking stairs today after the run. Might need to go see someone about it, as it seems to be taking a while to heal (since last Wednesday) and didn't seem like a "serious" injury in the first place.

Am a bit annoyed, I'm itching to get back into it. Joined the early club (becky etc.) in getting up at 6.15 this morning. It was lovely to see a sunset on my morning run again, though I did have to force myself to get out of bed.

Good to see you're all doing well. Good work Rich, you're on for losing 2 stone in 2 months, that's got to be motivating?! I know it wasn't your only aim, but a very nice side effect, I'm sure...

Well I did not get out on my planned run yesterday. The weather was horrible all day and ....erm..... I did got to a party on Saturday night.

However today is a really nice day here albeit a bit damp underfoot and I ran eight or so miles. It was the run which took so much out of me two or three weeks ago, only this time after getting my second wind after the hills I decided to do a circuit of the park on top of my planned run. I am certainly getting back on track.

Have a good week everybody. Hope you all achieve your training objectives for the week. Time for me to eat Marmite on toast. I was dreaming of it throughout my run!

Mmm marmite.. give us a bite Chris! :D

Am achy this morning, I slipped a bit on some wet grass yesterday, was fine at the time but think I've jarred my back a bit. Nice hot bath tonight I think as I want to run tomorrow morning.

Careful with that knee - but try walking instead of resting to keep the blood flowing to promote healing without piling more damage on. If it hasn't recovered after a few days of walking then it definitely needs looking at.

Its funny how the weight loss seems to be creating a bit of interest. When I get on the scales to do a weigh-in I'm not looking for weight to have dropped off, in fact quite the opposite I'm hoping its held up!

Come Jan/Feb the weight will be 11st - 11 1/2st, thats pretty much inevitable just by doing the sessions. So week to week weight is of no interest except as a performance measure. The logic is this - if you run a 55min 10K on a 118 pulse is that a better performance if the weight is 12.5st, 13st or 13.5st? Clearly its better if the weight is 13.5st. The higher the weight the more automatic improvement is in the bag for later.

Yeah you know it makes sense. May as well rest an extra day or two if necessary. It really wont make any significant difference to your training and risking further injury just is not worth it.

I see your point about the weight. Mind you, weight loss was my original "aim" when I first started, so I guess my mentality was very different.

RE: The knee, I did a 2 - 2.5 mile walk at lunch time with the same thing in mind. I tried to avoid stairs (it doesn't like going down stairs, but doesn't mind going up). Obviously I've got an office job, but will walk around as much as I can. Will avoid other exercise, including football on Wednesday if necessary and keep an eye on it.

I have just sent my DD to buy me a long sleeved running top with built in handwarmers.........the air is decidedly nippy outside and I am running more or less straight after work, so no time to go home and get a different set of clothes.

4 miles planned - but it involves more hills than I am used to, so I will be taking it very steady to start with - sadly the longest hill is on the way back, so no chance of catching up my energy for an easier last section!

    I will report back later!

It is wise to take hills slow at first. You soon get used to a route with hills and you will be taking it in you stride before long.

I am planning to run home from work tomorrow. 1.15 am!

Well that will be Wednesday morning to make it clear.
