Thanks Hypno - we are aiming for around 35 mins for RFL, so we need to knock a bit off our time, but I think we probably could if we didn't have as much to talk about.
Although the combination of exercise and having someone to talk to was probably just what I needed today.
Edit: Sorry, meant to say as well, you are making fantastic progress if you really haven't run for a long time - the skiing must keep you fit obviously."I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -
Thanks Snaggles, although I can't attribute it to anything sporty - I have done nothing for months, that remotely resembles exercise!
Pania did explain it though - she said that if your body has previously been used to doing a particular thing, then even when it is a long time since you have done that, it is sort of pre-programmed, so getting back into it isn't so difficult as you might think.
This seems to make sense - my inability to get out there running was down to my lack of motivation/willpower/determination, rather than my leg muscles not being able to cope!
So, even though it is several years since I was last fit, there is hope for me yet!
And as for your RFL, you will be under 30 mins by then, never mind 35!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
Coming from the Lake District, as I do, and knowing only too well just how quickly weather conditions can change on the fells, I find it incredible that this race was not cancelled at least 2 days before it was due to take place.
I have known that Cumbria was about to get the rain-lashing of it's life since at least Thursday, and I wasn't even looking for the information. You'd think that the organisers would have been a bit more savvy and clued up about the whole thing.NIL ILLEGITIMUS CARBORUNDUM!Nov Grocery Challenge: £0.00 / £150.00

Well done on everyone's runs this morning...I'm out for a 6 miler at 5.30 which should be nice as I hardly ever run in the evening...0 -
The number missing was revised down to 25 as they started counting people in this morning.
Now down to 3 unaccounted for - so a bit of hypothermia may be the worst problem.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Hi everyone,
Just checking in after my outing this morning in the Accrington 10K. I finished in a quite respectable 57:35 (by my watch, official time may be a second or two different). It was good running weather, not raining but bright and fresh. The course is gently uphill for the first mile, then two miles charging downhill. Of course you know that you will pay for the downhill and mile 4 was steep uphill into the wind. 5 & 6 were ok, undulating but nothing to write home about.
It was a cheerful little race, well-marshalled with well over 400 taking part. Finishers got a t-shirt and an orange juice and there was a local sports shop operating a stall at the finish.
All in all, well worth getting up for! I am taking the time as my baseline time from which to improve.Sealed Pot Challenge #8 £341.90

Well done Chick!
Having a well earned rest today, not doing much at all. Back out tomorrow when I'll probably go along the seafront as then I can try to do the 3 miles without stopping as it's pretty much flat all the way.
I can't believe the weather in the Lake District, but you have to question whether the runners should have decided not to do it as well as the organisers. I think it was pretty hard going in the Snowdon marathon yesterday too.0
