Hi all!
Thought I would quickly pop in to say hello! Have been pretty manic at work recently, which I guess in the current economic climate can only be a good think even if it is interfering with my running
Anyhow, heading off for an interval run 6x800 tonight and then 2 hours of dance training so am likely to be pretty tired by 11pm tonight!! Might go for an easy run tomorrow morning before work but will see how I feel.
Congrats to all on their achievements. Isn't it amazing that here we are all from different areas of the UK and getting support from each other with pretty impressive results. Hmm philosophical I know but still makes me smile!
Not sure about Leeds in June, there is a fab 10K about 30 min from my house that weekend so will have to see. Has anyone seen http://www.purplepatchrunning.com/ that may be worth an idea? Alternatively, I have a holiday home in Sunny (ahem) Gower which can house 8 people if anyone fancies a trip??

Hi Rich. Sorry for taking so long to respond. I only pop into the site now and again and each time there are hundreds of pages to read. Don't you people do anything else?
I'm in training to do the Negril Marathon in Jamaica on 6 December. I've been using a training programme from Runners World - a 16 week programme that I started so early I'll have 2/3 weeks 'spare' , so not sure if I should repeat a week or two or do something every two days or whatever to fill the gap.
Monday was my rest day and Tuesday I dragged myself of to the running club for a speedwork session. As I (should) run on Wednesdays I only do 2/3 of the session, eg it was 8 x 800m with 200 recovery so I did 6 x 800m etc. For the first time on over a year, I actually used a stopwatch and noticed that my first lap was slower than my last which was cool. Normally I start off too fast and fade at the end
I'd planned to run at lunchtime today but had to visit a relative in hospital. After work I'm off to collect my computer and whilst I could run around Clapham Common tonight (7 miles in 80mins), I'm not sure I'll want to, so I might have to either do my mileage tomorrow instead of hills (another club session) or do it on Friday, rest Saturday and another 18 miles on Sunday. I'll see how I do.
I also cycle a few days a week to/from work which I'm finally starting to enjoy now that the fear is not as bad as it was(minus the odd vehicle who insist on getting too close  )

Hi Poor,
Wow that sounds very exciting - its coming up soon as well! 18 miles is such a scary distance to me right now...yeesh.
Cycling in London is hard work so I've heard - you're a lot braver than me!
Hope you manage to fit your run in - sorry about your relative. Why does life have to get in the way eh?0 -
I hope to visit Jamaica next year. That has given me ideas. A Carribean Marathon!“The primary cause of unhappiness is never the situation but your thoughts about it.” Eckhart Tolle0

Colonel-J:D, I've seen somewhere there are marathons in Cuba and, I believe Barbados, so I'll be putting them on my list for 2010 (or one of them at least). Next year I want to do one somewhere in the UK as I'll be short of funds so can't afford to travel overseas.
Next year's Jamaica marathon (or Reggae Marathon, as it's officially called) is on 5 December, I think. A Saturday.The 365 Day 1p Challenge 2025. Member #420 -

Hi Poorbabe,
Negril is flat along the coast (there's a 7 mile long beach including the famous 'Hedonism' (if you don't know what it is, you probably don't want to!:p)), so thats a big positive.
I was worried about the heat though but just noticed it goes off at 5-15AM. Wow!
In terms of the training, repeating weeks would be fine as long as you really taper off in the last 10 days.
How long are you in Jamaica before the race? Watch out for the mosquitos - Montego Bay down to Negril is very green and full of swarms of them. Another thing is there's loads of Aloe Vera just growing along the roadside - pick some to soothe your sore bits after the race!
