It is all good experience though. I have had some shocks in my time, but you come out of the better runner for it. I entered a race on the North Downs. That should have told me how hilly it would be. Ten miles of torture. And that was my first ten miler. I felt fantastic afterwards even though I was nearer the back than the front. Like you though I suspect it attracted people more specialist to the type of event.

Thank you :) I had a lovely run, only 5k but no stresses, no aches and pains and really enjoyed it. I felt like I could have carried on really but it was getting dark.

Don't worry about it, I don't...Some people on other boards really can't resist the chance to put the boot in, no matter how much you try to avoid it....take speeding threads as an example "I know I shouldn't have been speeding, I don't need to be told I shouldn't have been, I was just wondering...." first reply is nearly always "well, you shouldn't have been speeding". It's strange the split of people between those that actually want to help people and those that see the boards as a chance to make themselves feel better by pointing out how much better they are than everyone else. Oh well, such is life, ho hum etc I guess :D

    Hi All,

Well, today, I actually *went running* woo! The first (proper) time in a couple of weeks, but actually feel like my cold's on it's way out now...

Thought I'd do quite an easy 5.5 mile one...get back in the swing of things gently....and managed to stick to that for about the first 3 miles, but then felt it was just *too* easy and put my back into it a bit more. Ended up extending it to 10k and got round in 54:29 - the fastest I've done aside from the race, so was fairly chuffed all in all...guess I haven't lost all my fitness the last couple of weeks after all...

(I'd also played a couple of hours of golf beforehand, so wasn't fully "fresh" today..)

Glad to read everyone else is still getting on OK...And whilst I doubt I'm the youngest overall, I'm the youngest to declare thusfar - at a positively spritely 25 :)

It is suprising how we keep fitness much longer than we expect. If we have a couple of weeks off it is hardly noticeable and it may take six weeks or more to feel as if you are really struggling. I am not advocating this though because we need to keep honed and in tip top condition. Just really pointing out that a break enforced or otherwise will not effect you that much. I remember having the flu years ago and kept putting off getting back into it because I believed that I would be starting from scratch again. This is not simply not true as I have proved to myself many times. Oh and after a marathon or series of hard races a couple of weeks off may be the best thing you can do. Most sports have 'seasons' and as running is all year round I think there is something to be said of enforcing a personal break of two of three weeks off once a year and then coming back slowly for a further two or three weeks - just to enjoy the experience of running. As I keep saying on this forum, we need to remind ourselves that we run because we enjoy it.

    Well done Idio!

Yet further evidence that there is no point in rushing back from illness/injury.

Since you enjoyed it so much its probably got your appetite back for the game as well.

Oh, and well done for taking the youngest tag away from Becky!!:p

I'm 22 in my head.....  :D

Thanks for the tips about anti-blister socks and Compeed - I had to make do with non-adhesive dressing and plasters today, but actually, it didn't hurt when I ran, only when I walked, which was a great incentive to keep going.
