The aim for week 6 was to again to ease up the percentage of running in the running/walking mix.
There were again points in the week where the body was clearly trying to catch up with muscle repair and therefore Friday's 10K was taken even more cautiously and Saturdays run was converted into a walk. The main muscle tightness was in the calf muscles, but because they were responding well enough to stretching there was no serious damage and it was just a case of letting the recovery run its course.
So, a bit of a struggle at times but not any great surprise as the week contained:
1. Equal highest total weekly workload.
2. Highest running workload.
3. Fastest four 10Ks so far.
Again pleased with the overall progress - 6 weeks down, 2 to go!
PS Just done a BMI check (which I do every couple of weeks) to see what progress has been made over the 6 weeks. Actual weight has dropped from 14st 12lbs to 13st 6lbs over the 6 weeks resulting in a BMI drop from 30.6 to 27.7.
This looks about right with an additional 5,000 calories expended each week plus the elevated metabolism for several hours after each run.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Okay Sammy checking in with a race report.....
My first mult terrain run......OH MI GOD! There were 50 in the run and looked like fairly serious runners. First bit over road then through a newly cropped field! Then through more fields with long grass and about ten styles with barbed wire......Then through a wood, with nettles and brambles then another field a farm and then another boggy field! I have never run five miles on that kind of terrain...
First my legs hurt then my breathing and the constant jarring and having to watch where my feet went was hard work. Was quite dehydrated but I finished, I wasn't last - very nearly though......I was third from last, but it was a good race and the weather was absolutely gorgeous and I got great satisfaction from doing it. I think I did the race in just under an hour but will have to wait for the results to find out for definite... I forgot my watch!
I need to figure out the water thing, I had only had two cups of tea before doing the race, I can't take water while I am running cos I find the sloshing quite offputting and I daren't drink too much before the race because I am worried about needing the loo..
Need to look for another race now!
Well done Sammy!
I know that these less than straight forward races attract the more experienced runners, and this sounds really specialist, so you should be pretty pleased with yourself
I have done multiterrain but not how that sounds! Is it what you were expecting or was it a suprise to you?“The primary cause of unhappiness is never the situation but your thoughts about it.” Eckhart Tolle0
