I did once try to make hummus but turned out very dodgy! According to the wonderfully knowledgeable Old Stylers i was lacking some sesame-seed oily paste thing but ive never got round to searching it out.
Hi, it's called Tahini - Tescos sell it - no excuses now :rolleyes:0 -
Well done you two who did the Leeds race today - just saw it on Calendar, looked like a good day :T Thinking about doing the Great Yorkshire Run in September, I just need to find a spare £22 to enter, and persuade someone to let me use their credit card as you have to enter online I think (can't use any of mine, hence why I am on the DFW forum
)
Excellent shopping BA, the huge bags of pasta are great, although I think I'll need to buy some containers to keep mine in, I'm worried it's going to fall out of the cupboard and I'll be buried under a pasta mountain :eek:
Pania, hope you feel better soon xDebt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
Well done FMYOW and evab. :T
You have set yourselves a benchmark for your next races.
What have you learned from the day?
What will you do differently for next time?
What is it from the experience you would pass on to help/encourage others?“The primary cause of unhappiness is never the situation but your thoughts about it.” Eckhart Tolle0 -
Hi cnoelj and everyone,
I don't think I've achieved the sub-60 min mark for this 10km so I think that will definitely be the goal for the next race, the Swindon half is the next goal but we are going to do some 10km and 10 milers before then to keep our focus and motivation going.
I think that I've learned that I need to be more sorted with my preparation i.e. have enough money so that I'm not stressed out about that, also I think I need to build in speed and hill work into my runs more to give me the stamina.
Next time I will not have an argument with my hubbie, not just have a measily bit of tuna and pasta the night before and get ear plugs so I have a good nights sleep!
Tips to pass on to others:
* vary your training
* sort out your route to the event, timings and meeting points and any other preparation before you go as then you will have more focus on the race
* try your best, you can rest tomorrow
*HAVE FUN :beer:0 -

Well done Evab - you did really well, bet you feel so proud of yourself now.
Cnoelj - you always write really supportive and encouraging messages that make me question why I am running and the goals I want, thank you :T
P - hope you are feeling better soon, although that much medication :eek: :eek:
Redsquirrel - know what you mean about the pasta, we now have oodles of the stuff! Really pleased with myself though, if I can do that every week I'm in budget!
Have been for my run tonight, weather was atrocious earlier so assumed friend would ring and back out and I would agree - but she turned up on the dot as agreed and we did a whopping 73 mins and 7 milesBasically decided to do a "blind run" and got our stopwatch and just ran down places we have never been before, it was brilliant, we went down a canal track, off the road up a really muddy and rocky trail, past farms, running by train lines :eek: and down to the lake and up 100 steps to the end:eek: but the thing was I could have carried on so progress must have been made
Also chuffed with my MB this week, running total is £439, am not touching it though until I have £1000 and will then pay some debts off with it
Have a lovely evening everyone, I'm about to sand my feet down and exfoliate them as they feel tired after running:beer:

Hmmmm
Yes, i would also like to do sub-60mins so that is definatley a goal for next time. Todays 62mins was my first race of the year and a PB for me (i did 2 10Ks last yr in over 70mins so slowly improving).
It was the first time i ran with someone else. My friend is fitter than me but we work well together as a team. For the first 6K i took the lead, weaving in and out of people and planning our route if you know what i mean (for those who have never raced, its very hard when the roads are narrow and theres a big crowd of people all around you. very annoying when even though the race organisers try to get people to line up as runners, joggers or walkers, some people blatantly want to just start at the front and then stop to walk 1/2km in and cause problems for the rest of us :rolleyes: ).
Anyway, for the first half i had enough spring in my step to effectivly work our way through the crowds. Then at about 6-7Km i was getting tired and slowing down so my friend took the lead. That was nice cos i could just get my head down and concentrate on staying on his shoulder. He could have pushed faster in the last 2-3Km but he concentrated on staying near enough for me to keep up but far enough to stop me slowing too much.
I was already 99% sure about this, but i have learned today that my times are certainly limited by my head, not my body. Running with someone else definately helped in that department. I almost feel like i got bored after 30-40mins. I don't seem to have the mental capacity for the final push for the last 2km or so - my mate helped by speeding up so i had to keep up, but even so i know i struggled. I wasn't particularly out of breath, legs felt a bit heavy but nothing physically wrong or exhausted - definatly a mental block.
So i have knocked 10mins off previous times by having someone to prevent me (mentally) giving in and slowing right down. Not sure what i can do to help myself in that situation when i'm on my own. I thought maybe taking ipod and putting that on about halfway round might help give me a boost. Also i guess training on longer runs would help. Any suggestions?
As for advice to others - just go for it!! Pick a nice race with a fundraising aim and the atmospere is great. Plenty crowds to cheer you along. There will ALWAYS be someone slower than you so don't worry about looking daft. Nice family atmospere is good too - OH and 2 of my stepDs were waiting to cheer us on the final stretch and seeing their proud faces makes it even nicer.0 -

That sounds like a lovely run. If you like off-road running check out www.cancerresearchuk10.com because there is an autumn series of 10k races set in the grounds of statley homes all over the country. I did one at Harewood House last year and it was fab - such a lovely change from concrete.0
