well done on the excellent session Sammy - does this mean me you n snags can drag bunny out for a 3 miler on the 17th??? or shall we just get stuck into the woo woo and forget the running....
My running club tipped me off on a good website for cheap-ish running clothes last night which they recommend..... (not linked to jogscotland or anything, just one that they use personally) www.tchibo.co.uk If you click on the top menu that says Next Week, you will come up to all the running stuff........
Have ordered a pair of gloves and a pair of longer running trousers... they have nice running tops and tights and all sorts... worth a look if you are thinking about winter kit.....
i think i am just going to run in my long sleeved wickable fabric top and gloves, with longer trousers... as long as i have a layer to take off at the last minute and put on at the end, i don't need extra layers when actually running as i do get hot, on account of being a fattie!I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -

Nah I get hot too - I think of it this way - all those extra calories you are burning turns you in a furnace!
I'm still in shorts and vest - winter kit - pah (but it is warmer down 'ere so I let you northerners off).0 -

When i'm away in Wrexham on my holidays 13th-17th October, my brother's OH does power walking around the local park every day, so i think at the very least i will join her and maybe break into a trot if i can... at least i will have some form of exercise... of course will take erin swimming at least once while away...I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0

Working on the basis that I can ever manage to walk again, what sort of time should I be aiming for, for a 5k run? I know the time isn't important, but at some point I would like to enter a race of some kind, and want to know that I can get round before everyone else has packed up and gone home.

What's a decent 'beginner' time for a 5k?"I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -
A quick question - it may have been mentioned before but at work and cant look through all the posts.
Do you listen to music while you run and is it a good idea. Have been told its not a good idea to listen to music but then others say they do. Any ideas?
For what its worth I have an ipod shuffle and do like to listen to it when running.Total Debt now £22,525.07 Start Debt £32,732.36

Well I consider myself a beginner and did my first race, 10k, in just under 50 mins - and it was pretty much 25mins for each (first and last) 5k...
that said, I am a strapping young lad in the prime of youth (apparently) and am pretty tall (6'2") - so I'd have thought that for most people 30-36 mins is quite respectable (that's 10-12 minute miles, more or less)...
That said, as we always say, you're only ever in competition with yourself - so if you get round in a PB, that's all that counts

I only ever have one ear in - so I can hear traffic / people etc in the other ear...I wouldn't feel very safe running with both ears in...0 -

I only have the one ear on as well when i run with music, which is not often... but moreso cause i tend not to run alone.
I like to use my phone mp3 or radio and wired mircophone/earphones so if i hurt myself then i have my phone handy....
I really enjoyed a recent run with Radio 2, chris evans drive time, music was varied and there was chat... i'm not sure what i'd pick if it were music only on offer.........I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -

I always have both ears in and I'm in central London...I do even when I run on country roads with no pavements - I like music it makes me smile when I'm running (especially when my favourite song comes on) and it helps me zone out when its starting to get painful...
Can't see why it wouldn't be a good idea - as long as you can hear traffic (i.e. its not busting your ears loud) then you're fine...
Who told you that anyway??0
