    Hi Daph again!

I too had SPD with my fourth...until then i exercised regularly although my weight had steadily crept up from when i turned 30.

Its gone up even more now and I too hate the way my body looks compared to how it used to.. I am off to see a personal trainer this morning who lost five stone after having her baby and she looks like a little whippet now...

I am a bit scared but I am determined to get back into the swing off things...

It may be worth using Tower Bridge. If you get the timing just right on the opening phase you should get a decent hill out of that one!

If nothing else its a gentle introduction to hills.

Plenty time to put the thinking cap on as to where longer inclines may be found.

The best marathon runners always live in hilly areas though - coincidence? Probably not.

Tower bridge?? Thats flat isnt it?? Plus its one the wrong side of the city - *sigh* I'll get up at 5 and do Richmond next week...

But on the plus side I've found another great run at least, and tee hee I overtook four people in the park today :p

Bit of a jump at the top though - and I thought some of the puddles I had to leap over last night were an effort!

I fell for that one good and proper didnt I - you're lucky I'm in a good mood, now stop bullying me and offer some lovely advice to the newbies please :)
  • Morning all!!

Endorphins yes I think that what has happened to me a couple of times this week!! - Mind you 5k what an achievement!!

Well done all you 'hill' climbers - I think i'm a long way off that yet, but we do have some good ones very close by so one day...........

Anyway perhaps some of Rich's wisdom?:T

Next week will be third week, so far this week managed to 'run' a mile a day - I am sure that tomorrow will be the toughest as day 5 on the 'trot' so to speak! After the weekend off where do I go next week? Monday is always the best so do I attempt a little further, then knock back maybe Tues and increase again Wed or something else?? As a complete running novice since my school days (those of which I can hardly remember!) perhaps getting into the realms of needing guidance.:rotfl:

In fact advice from any one of you - being as how you are all so good!!:T

Welcome Daph, perhaps we could follow our training together!!!!!

hi guys... since you are asking we did our run tonight and it was freezing! driving rain and bitter freezing cold wind... and they took us along the bloody seafront!!!!! brrrrr!!!

We did walk5 to warm up - run10 - walk 3(was on a !!!!er of a hill so hardly a recovery! and i'd never have been able to run it!) run 25- walk 5 to cool down and stretches at the end.

They were fast tonight and i was absolutely the last person, it was kinda demoralising and i was a bit miffed as the trainer was about 15 feet in front with the other 3 slowies but i was killing myself just keeping up so i dropped back and she didn't come with me....

but the anger kept me moving and we did 3 miles in the end so i am pleased....

well done on super mega run snags... you have so cracked this running malarkey!!

And as for the endorphins, mine are broken i think, i've not had a high at all tonight......

Hmmm, not really playing the game is it?

But try and capture the thoughts of how this felt so you can look back on it later with a sense of satisfaction after the inevitable improvements come.

Hiya DD! Lovely to see you over here!

I had SPD through both pregnancies, to the point of being in a wheelchair for a couple of months, but I'm finding as long that if I keep my strides short and make sure I don't run 'wiggly' when I get tired, it doesn't seem to be taking a toll on my joints just yet. And the insole thingies have really helped!

I'm not sure if that's the right advice though, so don't take my word for it!

    Wisdom? Hmmmm.

I could actually do with somebody's wisdom. After yesterday's 'incident' I suspect there's an aerial army out there waiting for me. Should I equip myself with a brolly? Or can I make myself an unattractive target in some way. If I get hit again today I'll become paranoid! :p

Anyway, notapenny, in terms of training improvements you've hit the nail on the head in that the best way to improve, regardless of the starting point, is to use alternation. Post 2762 gives an idea how to tease most improvement out of the body whilst minimising the risk of injuries.

    *sneaks in again*

Well done on the 5k Snaggles, that's fab! :T Maz, sounds like a hard run at the club, good on you for sticking in there.

I've been useless, I can't get motivated to get out - it's either cold and dark, cold and wet, or just cold!! Has anyone got some spare motivation they can send me? :o:(
