hi guys... since you are asking we did our run tonight and it was freezing! driving rain and bitter freezing cold wind... and they took us along the bloody seafront!!!!! brrrrr!!!
We did walk5 to warm up - run10 - walk 3(was on a !!!!er of a hill so hardly a recovery! and i'd never have been able to run it!) run 25- walk 5 to cool down and stretches at the end.
They were fast tonight and i was absolutely the last person, it was kinda demoralising and i was a bit miffed as the trainer was about 15 feet in front with the other 3 slowies but i was killing myself just keeping up so i dropped back and she didn't come with me....
but the anger kept me moving and we did 3 miles in the end so i am pleased....
well done on super mega run snags... you have so cracked this running malarkey!!
And as for the endorphins, mine are broken i think, i've not had a high at all tonight......I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -
Oh Maz Honey, you pick yourself up, remember your progress and forget about the stupid trainer lady.
Sounds like a bloody awful run (one that I wouldn't want to do either) Don't you just love the winter dark evenings, cold and rain.I'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....

Thank you

You did really well to keep going Maz, I'm not sure I could have done. But at least it proves you can do it on your own, relying on your own determination and drive.
Could you have a word with her to explain how you felt?"I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -

it was a one off on her part, so i guess no point saying anything... if i feel like this again then i will say something....I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -
morning all,
Just a quick pop in to say - well done Maz for toughing it out!!
Been for my attempted hill run and there were a few but not many... but I have discovered two very good bridges with nice gentle inclines that will probably do for now so next week I'm going to laps on the closer one and then progress to the steeper one in a few weeks - what do peeps think??0 -
*peeks tentatively around the door*

May I join in?
I used to run... I have not been for two years though. I had an injury, which stopped me doing anything for a while, and then I fell pregnant and had SPD! Well the baby is almost 1 and I hate how I look. I also have no energy, but I know that's probably because I am not exercising. I just need to get started and that's where I'm falling down. I have running shoes and clothes but getting out of the door is another matter.0 -

Morning Daphne,
You're in the right place that's for sure.
I was just the same, no training for 2 years until about 4 weeks ago. Read as much of the thread as you can, in small chunks, and after reading everyone's progress you'll soon get an overwhelming feeling of missing out on something good.
Regular walking is the way to get back into it, because your body gets used to regular exercising again but you don't have to go through all the psychological hurdles stopping you going for a run - its just step out of the door and you're away. Walking will soon progress to running.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

How long are the inclines? As I say its the length rather than steepness which is important. But equally, we're starting these very early in the cycle so can afford a very gentle build up.
Its quite ironic that you're searching around for a bit of an incline and I have to search around for a bit of flat!Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Um well the bridge is (scuttles off to check map my run) 0.14 miles and its all up or down if that make sense no flat bits...
The other steeper bridge is 0.2 miles and that ones a curve shape and has banks either side - Albert Bridge I think its called - I ran over it on the way back from my run and it was hard work, but I also did some fartlek because it was so flat most of the way...
Do you want to swap for a few weeks??0 -

It may be worth using Tower Bridge. If you get the timing just right on the opening phase you should get a decent hill out of that one!
If nothing else its a gentle introduction to hills.
Plenty time to put the thinking cap on as to where longer inclines may be found.
The best marathon runners always live in hilly areas though - coincidence? Probably not.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j
