    Hi All,

Just to pop in and congratulate you all on your continued efforts...I've had a rubbish week myself, been suffering with a sore throat / general misery since monday...

I did my 5mile run on sunday though and did pretty well at football on Tuesday...thinking of doing another 5/6 mile run today...I know I should really wait til my throat feels better blah blah blah...but I'm so frustrated with the lack of progress I've made the last couple of weeks and just want to get out and achieve something.

Will see how I feel a little later on, anyway...

    Hi all

Becky, I commend you for getting up at 5am to go for a run. I couldn't do that during the summer when I'm full of energy, so there is no way I'd consider doing that at this time of year!

I'm getting to that stage where I have to force myself out the door. The evenings will be the worse bit as it's getting cold and dark and my radiators and blankets are beginning their siren calls :D :rotfl: What works at the moment is getting changed into running gear as soon as I get home of an evening and not sitting down for the 10 or so minutes til I need to leave for the club sessions. Any other weekday sessions I'll do at lunchtimes so I can lounge in the evenings ;)

I've got hill training tonight with the club. 'Boss' finally had a word with me about getting a stop watch, so I had to admit to already owning one. Bother - that means I'll actually have to work a little harder tonight and on the Tuesday speed sessions :o

Becky which bridges are you using for hill sessions? I might be able to add them to my long Sunday runs from next week.

:T :T for everyone who's already been or who will be going out at some point today/tonight :T :T

    Hi everybody,

Just thought I would pop in for an update. Everyone seems to be doing really well with their training, what with hill-training and running clubs and leaping off Tower Bridge!

I had a disaster weekend, well as far as training goes anyway. I ran about 7 miles in 1h 6min last Thursday, which I enjoyed and felt comfortable for me. Didn't run on Friday as I was on a work night out (posh dinner rather than pub crawl) Then on Saturday I was off early to a wedding 'down south'. The wedding went well but I wore high heels and it was quite a walk from the hotel to the register office, then a bit further still to the reception. This was OK on the way there, but on the way home, after all day in my high heels, we walked back. My feet have blisters and I have had to patch them up with copious quantities of compeeds. Needless to say, I didn't run on the Sunday.

With my patchwork feet I ran on the track whilst DS was at footy training. I did 3 x 1mile (4 laps) reps, with a short rest in between plus a very slow warm-up and cool-down plus stretching after. I was averaging about 8m 45s miles, which is faster than my usual pace.

As I am doing the GNR on Sunday what would you kind folks advise that I do this week? (Had a presentation evening at school yesterday so no running yesterday or Tues).

    Thanks for your input!

    Hi Chickadee

Congrats on the GNR for Sunday. I have fond memories of my trips up North for that one as the supporters were always fab and the view of the beach from the top of the final descent was always inspiring - even though the final yards seemed to take forever :rotfl:

The experts will be along soon to give you better advice than me, but I used to do short runs of about 4/5 miles ending two days before and eat loads of carb laden foods, with the occasional beer :D I'd finally remember to drink lots of water throughout Saturday and a small amount on the Sunday morning as nerves made my innards work overtime, needing to make lots of trips to the loo:rolleyes:

Good luck and don't stop moving those legs til you cross the finish line :T

    Hi Poorbabe,

That all sounds far too structured for - running with others is hard work :p. I got up at 6 today, but in order to get to Richmond and run and get to work on time 5am it is next week - I actually like the mornings in London though - soo peaceful:D

I'm using Albert and the one before the other side of Battersea park (ur is that Queens or is that the railway one...), but I'm only just starting on hills so the are probably too gentle slopes for normal people :o

    Have fun tonight!

    Becky

Becky, I wouldn't say I run 'with' the others. More like I see them in the distance as I struggle to breathe and run at the same time :D

I tend to run over Chelsea Bridge, but have done Battersea bridge on occasion. I might actually give Albert Bridge a go, as I've never done that one before

'Peaceful' London is early on a Sunday morning for me (when I say 'early' I mean any time up to 11am) :rotfl:

Its funny how we are using bridges as hills!!

Albert bridge is very pretty...I reminds me of another one but cant think what:

It was lovely with the sun rising over the thames today reflecting off the cast iron work... not that I looked at too much since I was dying by that point ;)

Ehh how did that smiley get in my url ????

    Thanks Poorbabe,

I know what you mean about the final descent. It is probably the best moment of the whole course, although the support along the sea front is superb it seems to go on forever. I have a nice little 4.5 mile route that I think I'll do tonight, and I think I can manage the carbs :D

The weather forecast is a bit grotty though. I don't mind running in light rain, but horizontal hailstones is slightly less pleasant!

I'm still looking forward to it. I'm sure there'll be plenty of tales to tell.

I am just back from my personal training session.. best money ever spent! Loved it and she showed me loads of exercises to do at home. We concentrated on building muscle (not too big) but just enough to burn more calories when I am running.

I told her I am a runner so I will have to do some running now won't I....:rotfl:

I am doing a 5miler in Worcester on the 12th October so if you want to stick that one on the race plan Richoneday it will mean I have to stick to it....

The personal trainer is also starting a running club and said i would be ideal to join in, she said its not full of 'nutters' so I should be okay:rotfl:

Great news sammy. I have always thought about having a personal training session but didn't know how useful it would be for me. I know what you mean about the club. It is so intimidating to start up with a club. You never know how cliquey it will be, or if it full of wiry 70-year-old fell-runners.

I'll have to have a look into personal training. It may give me some focus.
