I might ask for an ipod for xmas....

Oh...and I just had to add (I wouldn't have been able to sleep tonight, otherwise...;))...Pleeeeeeease don't buy an ipod! There are much better MP3 players out there for the money! (and this is MSE, afterall :D) Personally, I just ordered a Creative Muvo T100 to run with...small, light, has built in USB (I hate cables!), 2gb and cost £17.99 delivered from play...

I have the Creative one too - you just pull one end off and plug it straight into the computer - tis fab.

Well I consider myself a beginner and did my first race, 10k, in just under 50 mins - and it was pretty much 25mins for each (first and last) 5k...

that said, I am a strapping young lad in the prime of youth (apparently) and am pretty tall (6'2") - so I'd have thought that for most people 30-36 mins is quite respectable (that's 10-12 minute miles, more or less)...

That said, as we always say, you're only ever in competition with yourself - so if you get round in a PB, that's all that counts :D

    Thanks :)

36 minutes.....okay a little way to go then, but I think that's achievable.

My first 2.5k was 18 minutes last night, so if I could keep up that pace, I could do it. My second was 22 minutes though. :rotfl:

I know that the time doesn't matter, but....it matters! :o

Yeah anything but an iPod (I'm an IT geek too), they are soooo overpriced - I had a great really basic samsung a while back, but now I use my phone with an SD card - also means it can talk to my EEE laptop - yeah!

Interesting you should phrase it that way - I was after reviews of the new MP3 player just now and came upon this site: http://www.anythingbutipod.com/

jinky - on a serious note, well done on the sports bra... what did you get? (and whaddaya mean, what was live aid... you ain't that young missus!!!)

Re - andrew WK - Big G has that and i think if you started running to party hard (or whatever it's called!?) you would pass out by the end of the song....

a good running song doesn't have to be mega fast does it??

i think summer of 69 would be good, or maybe some madness... would bring a smile to your face....
I paid a visit to Bravissimo (you know the place for us larger ladies:cool: ) and bought a shock absorber...nice pink and grey one:T

Regards Live Aid,i was being sarky:rolleyes: but stop giving the game away..I am only 18 you know;)

There is no way on this earth I could run at the speed of AWK:eek: ....it would just keep my mind off what i was doing.

    Do I have to smile??:confused::D

Anyway I went out tonight, tattoo still sore but i ran through the pain:j :T and reckon i ran for a good 5mins without having to stop...which is a major achievement for me:beer:  incoporated a nice brisk walk too...feel great might push myself a bit more next time:A

Hello lovely people only just managed to get on here for the first time today...got withdrawal symptoms!
Snaggles if you can do a 5k in 30-35 mins I think thats a good time for a beginner. Then you can aim for faster the next time and have something to work on.
Becky glad your hills went ok, even if it was only bridges!
I have to say I love my ipod so there :)
Jinky glad to hear you have got the boobiledge under control with a sports bra!
Maz thanks for the link to tchibo...I have one in town so might pop in and try stuff on before I buy (trousers are likely to be too long for a shorty like me!) Def need some more tops as I am having trouble keeping on top of the washing!

Just watching programme on Channel 4 - 8 year old anorexic..so sad

Thanks Sally - I'm not quite there yet - if I could keep up the same pace on both laps, I might just sneak under 36 minutes, but it will be a looooooong time before I can get anywhere near 30. My time over the 5k has dropped 4 minutes already though, so I think I can manage a little bit more.

As long as I'm not the very slowest person, I don't mind though. :D

Im a fellow shorty (5 feet 2 and a half inches - the half is very important you know!), so I run in cropped running trouser type things. I really like the ones I've got - feel like a proper runner in them!

thanks for the tip... i know you're right. I bought Big G an ipod for his xmas, first one had to be replaced and itunes is a pain in the buum....

i have a wee mp3 player which i've had for aaaages... i think it's 128mb... so only holds about 12 songs which, lets be honest is enough for me! lol!!! :rotfl:

maybe i should just invest in a memory card for my phone......
I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....

I've just bought a VERY cheap micro SD card off eBay - if it doesn't make my phone blow up, I'll point you in the right direction Maz!
