Too right we are! I don't think you're allowed to stop yapping about running once you've started(That's one of those rules we haven't written yet but will!!).
And, anyway, you're hooked now - you can never escape the runner's bug!

Crazy how many peeps are reading this...I can't seem to keep up with all the replies...mental!
Yep, I deffo have the runner's bug! It's my birthday on Bonfire night November 5th and all I want is running get up! I do need a new pair of trainers though as keep wearing them out. I seem to go through a pair each half marathon, suppose that is normal? Also I am very heavy on my feet which doesn't help eitherMy first pair came from the running shop as they examined my running style and said it was very, very odd as I run completely different on the treadmill as I did on the road. Neutral on Treadmill, over pronate on the road. Opted for the over pronate trainers as never train on a treadie anyway as much prefer to be running outside and the treadie can give you a false sense of security...well I feel it can do with me anyway! So vowed never to train for a race on a treadie!
I then started getting them off of ebay etc as once I had my first pair, I went to the Saucony website and managed to find trainers which were the same style, just different names so have been lucky up until now...but can't seem to find any at the mo so will keep looking over the next week or two! I feel it is very important to have the correct trainer!
Right I is off to brave Cabot Circus shopping and get my mop of hair sorted out! Take care all!
JUst a quick point as have been thinking about my diet with regards to all the running as I seem to be getting more hungry the more I exercise! Do people here tend to try and eat healthy? Do you eat certain things on training days? I need to sort out my diet really as want to learn about nutrition and how to fuel my body to get the best results for my running! Anu ideas would be fab!

Donner, isn't there another running club on a dif night or maybe in the daytime when your free. Maybe you could find a run chum, company is always good and means you are more inclined to go;)
My family are all around the Horfield/Eastville/Fishponds areas, except one who ran off to Oz, lucky moo, but she does let me stay sometimes, and yes I do the walking over there too, but very early before it gets too hot lol
If you find a good running shop let me know, I was goin to look next time I'm up. Have fun in town, and try not to get too many bruises with all those mad crowds:rotfl: :rotfl:

Jenny,
Good luck with tomorrow - it looks like it will be a nice day for it!
In terms of breakfast try not to eat after 8am - that will mean that all the digestion is pretty much over by race time. Basically, you don't want digestion diverting blood flow away from helping your performance. Plus you don't want to run the increased risk of stitch which eating too close to the race could cause.
As far as what to eat, its not really important just don't eat too much - cereal or toast is quite normal but not a full English if you can help it. You're not eating for fuel at this stage (you already have the fuel stored up) just to keep normal hunger pangs at bay!

Donna,
Your body tends to adjust to a more healthy diet the more you run - you just find your appetite changes to different foods. I posted this as my answer to Becky the other day:
Diet wise you need to make sure you get some basic building blocks in there such as regular roughage/carbohydrates/proteins, but the more you study the subject the more confused you will become. And advice changes quite rapidly anyway. My staple diet involves a lot of muesli with loads of fruit in. It works for me as an 'energy food' and then I eat what my appetite asks for on the basis the appetite must be linked to what the body needs.
And this was a bit of a summary from somewhere else that I use for good advice:
For those of you who would enjoy eating (and there are plenty of you out there!) and would rather focus on your running than pouring over lists of ingredients, we like the simple but effective principle - 'Eat what you need and then eat what you like'. Just ensure that you are aware of what you actually need in your diet. For many, the discipline and time management needed to keep on top of a regular running programme is enough without having to add a similar level of control to their diet. This is a leisure activity, not a punishment regime. We would stress that, whatever impression the popular media might give, the most important factor in improving your running will be doing more and better quality running. Or in other words, nobody improves their marathon times just by sitting down, eating pasta, washed down with a glycogen drink.
As a general guideline, runners should usually be able to cover all their nutritional needs without needing to buy any supplements. Not only can supplements be harder to manage than a well balanced, regular diet, but with regular use, they start to become expensive. There may of course be individual dietry issues on, for example, iron levels, or adequate carbohydrate supplies for long distance events. There is also increasingly robust data on when to eat in terms of refuelling your body so that you maximize the times when your body is most receptive to building up the energy levels that running depletes.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j
