    Hi Sue,

Haven't seen much of you lately, but it sounds like the walking idea was pursued with some enthusiasm then. I think you and me must the keenest walkers in the club!

Without a doubt we must be Rich. Me come on here with all the naughtiness going on???? It's been way beyond me, you must know that! ;) A busy lifestyle lately Rich, that's all.

Ok so have been out this morning and you know what as enthusiastic as I was it was REALLY hard work. Now I would have said this was down to fitness lost (not according to Rich) so I must still be recovering or just not in the right state of mind (no comments please ;) )

Think I went off a bit quick ever to prove to myself that I can run faster than plod, legs were absolutely fine but breathing/chest was hard/tight so much to me always continuing (just to prove a point) I decided enough was enough at mile 3.5 and went into a fast walk the remainder of the 5 miles. I would normally have started running again but did listen to coach and continued the walk and took in the nice scenery and gorgeous day out there.

Anyway just had a look at my Nike + (which never seems to be right grrr going to get a garmin when I can afford) and actually I did the 3.5 miles in 34 mins and total 5 miles in 58.23 so not too bad. Although I did my 5k RFL in 28 mins so maybe not :o

Advice Coach?? Oh and :kisses: thank you so much for my training plan. I will do a seperate post with all my questions :p

    Sally,

You must be on the road to recovery BUT what happened to as low an intensity as possible? :p If there's one phrase that sums up how you should train it is this:

Time Only Matters In Sessions Where Time Matters

In terms of your training plan, the only sessions where 'Time Matters' are Fartlek, Time Trials and Races. In all other sessions the time is irrelevant. But, you are in good company because the vast majority of runners run all their sessions against the watch (they can't help themselves) and end up hindering their progress as a result.

Everything should now be focused on one aim which is London 09 (hopefully!). Whether you ran 34 minutes or 42 minutes on a Friday back in September doesn't matter one jot in terms of what you achieve in London.

So the emphasis should be on working in the key sessions and taking all the pressure off all other runs and enjoy easy running for what it is - freedom!

I have recopied Jon Brown's comments again re taking easy sessions much easier if a runner is to make better progress:

Make the hard days hard and the easy days easyJon Brown, UK 10,000metres recordholder and twice 4th in the Olympic Marathon. In many groups the harder structured sessions can fall slightly short of reaping the full intended benefits, whilst the supposed recovery running may be done too fast to really enable effective recovery, thus runners can get into a cycle of too much ‘middling’ effort running.
