Hello chatterboxes
Sorry I haven't read all the posts recently, good to see everyone still has the buzz. My runs went out of the window over the weekend due to family commitments but did manage a nice 3 mile stroll by the beach with DP and DS. Kinda slow but at least I was still moving
Went out for another run tonight and managed to keep going for longer and I can see a definite improvement in the short time I've been running. Would help if I talked less but I like to have a good ol gossip with my mate.
Right, off to catch up on a few hundred posts, lol.Cos I don't shine if you don't shine.0 -

She may do, but I was a bit concerned that she might not take to us calling her Mrs Beertins.
But then again she may love it!Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

I've been having a bit of a look around to see whether most fartlek is done unstructured (as I think it should be done) or structured(where you have fixed times of intervals and rests).
It seems most fartlek is structured but for one reason, and one reason only. And that reason is that fartlek is mainly used within a club environment where groups of mixed ability runners are running together. That may be the reason but it still doesn't make a lot of sense to have the fitter, more able athletes getting the longest rest periods.
So, basically I can't find any good reason for structure as such.
Peter Coe describes fartlek as "Go-As-You-Please" running which should be used to maximize the development of distance runners.
I like to call it "Run For Fun" but it amounts to the same thing - let the body dictate the session.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j
