I took a brave step last night. I got a 12-month track pass for my local running track. £80 for the year, which is good value as a single session costs £4. I plan to use it when my son does his football training, which is on an all-weather pitch at the same sports centre. So last night I did:
    3 x 400m warm-up slow jog.
7 x 400m at a moderate pace (for me) I tried to keep them consistent but they varied between 1:50 and 1:57. I had a 2-minute rest walking around between laps.
    Then I did 3 x 400m cool-down followed by stretching.

I have done coached track sessions before, with a club, but only a couple, and a very long time ago.

I was wondering if anyone (Rich?) can advise as to whether this was worthwhile, and what other types of track session I could do.

I think if I went to a running track now I'd have flashbacks to a former life and sprint off like a lunatic! Don't think I could make myself run at a steady pace for a long time.

To be honest I probably looked like a lunatic! Lone woman running round and round on her own. Well, there was a football team and a couple of referees running round too but they had a coach and looked very professional so i ignored them. Well, I tried, but the lap I did fastest was when they were having a rest and I could feel them watching me so I felt under pressure and ran faster :o

I must confess that I once baited them just for a laugh. All it takes is one seemingly innocent post for them to turn on each other like pitbulls:rotfl:

isn't it funny how we all do that!

Where i run is so quiet that whenever a car passes i always go "oops, look like you know what you're up to" then slouch into a sweaty heaving blob along the road again until the next one passes!

i hate running club for that as it's in town, so i have to look relatively normal all the way round, which is against my sweaty heaving blob instincts... speed doesn't actually come into it!!!

No, I'm not! But the alternative is sitting in my car waiting for DS to finish footy and reading a book. I thought about going for a run around the roads but the main road is very fast and has no footpaths and the estates around the sports arena aren't very nice and I wouldn't wanting to be running into a gang of hoodies!

It took all of my courage and determination but I did feel quite smug last night when I got home. :D
