Snaggles, like the new avatar :D
Thanks - I think it's supposed to be a runner made out of one of those things you put in a wine bottle if you don't finish it  (I'm not familiar with that concept... :rotfl:)

Well done on the race, poodle, that does sound like a really good time all things considered (and if you started at the 60 min mark, it was probably the best part of a minute after the start you crossed the line...) - and it's great that you felt you could go on - I had to have a little sit down as soon as I crossed the line, was shot.

Have to say, the whole going to the loo thing had never really occurred to me before, but rest assured i'll learn from your mistake and make sure I "go" before I go racing :)

    Morning all.

Idio - great job. Sub 50 mins on your first 10k attempt, I know exactly how you must be feeling, as that was me 3 weeks ago! If your training and weight loss plans continue at the current rate you'll be destroying my time very soon! I reckon we'd be good pace makers for each other at the moment. BTW your time is likely to put you in the top 5% or better.

poodle - well done on getting round in under 1 hour, not bad considering the err... adversity you faced :rotfl:. I made mistakes on my first race too, we live and learn!

Rich, snaggles, I live about 3.5 miles from Ikea!*

Had a nice run on Saturday, brilliant weather. Did just shy of 13km, so 8 miles. Until the end I was pacing at 4'57" or better, so just under 8 minute miles. Didn't ache yesterday and don't today, so would I have been OK to go out again this morning, Rich? Pulse is down to 52 (didn't measure it yesterday), so I assume so? Anyway, back out tomorrow morning for me to keep my 4+ mile routine going.

Seriously? Maybe there were a lot more serious runners and a lot less "along for a laugh" runner/walkers than at my 10K! How many runners were there in total?

Thanks! Yes won't make that mistake again :rotfl: Trouble is I've been running in races for three years now so really should have known better. I tend to take part in much smaller races though where factoring in the 20 min queue for the loo is just not an issue. Ah well it's making me chuckle now, people must have thought I was mad crouched down in the middle of the path hehe!

    Hi everyone,

Idio, Poodle, well done on your 10k results. I have never yet beaten the 50-minute barrier for 10k. My best-ever was 50:35 for the now-ceased Chester Zoo 10k.

I ran on Thursday night with the ladies group. i did 30 mins out & back, so 1hr in total. I reckon it was about 6 miles or so, but I haven't got a Garmin so I'm not too sure. I ran on the treadmill at the gym yesterday. 5k 30 mins, but i was just trying out my new running shoes. A brilliant sales assistant called Michelle at Sweatshop Chorley really helped me out. She spent about half an hour with me, trying different shoes, watching me run up and down the shop (probably did about 2k there!). I was running in Saucony Trigon Rides but I now have a shiny white pair of Asics 2130s. I have been having problems getting a blister and hard skin right on the ball of my foot (the outside where I would get a bunion if I was going to) which has been making my feet uncomfortable. Anyway, no ill-effects after the treadmill 5k so I will probably have a short-ish run tonight whilst DS is at football training and give the new shoes another run out. I'm trying to decide whether they would be Ok to run the GNR in. I'll let you know how I get on in them tonight.

I think there were about 2700 or something like that on the results sheet for the 10k...It's quite a flat race, so I think people are fast round it - and there were quite a few pros turned out for it - kenyans and the like :)
