It is amazing though how they run 10 miles per day as the norm at a very young age. They produce world class distance runners by the bucket load and we don't.

There's a perception here that its dangerous for kids to run more than a very limited amount. Clearly not the case...

Thats why they don't suffer with Childhood obesity and the Uk does! You would think that its obvious wouldn't you! My DD walks to nursery and back on a tuesday 2 miles and to school which unfortunately isn't far but I am desperate for her to be more active

    Hi All,

A brief report on the Swansea 10k for me...Quite busy, quite exciting, sounds dumb, but there were *such a lot* of people there...and all running *way* slower than they shoulda been for the place they were starting - at time I felt like I was after rich's record - passed so many people. Anyway, here's a breakdown of the times according to my garmin (6.26 mile total):
    mile 1: 8:39
    mile 2: 7:53
    mile 3: 7:48
    mile 4: 7:26
    mile 5: 7:43
    mile 6: 8:13
    last little bit: 1:45

    total: 49:29

Obviously the official time might be a *little* different, but I'm hoping not too much...and 6 minutes off my PB on the garmin is *more* than good enough for me, anyway...absolutely thrilled :D

Idio thats a great time and a PB too!! Guess you will get your official time tomorrow?? It must be so frustrating to faster runners when people put their times faster than they are, don't personally see the point of it!

Thanks Rich - they start from a size 7 - can they be trimmed at all? Or am I being blind and missing the smaller sizes?

I don't know whether they come any smaller tbh - there's nothing about sizes on Sorbothane's own website, so I think you may have to make a phone call.

As far as trimming them, you shouldn't really but that didn't stop Maz! :p

    Well done, great effort!

Not a surprise though - that is bang on what your times were indicating the other day within a few seconds. But still very satisfying when theory becomes reality and you nail it!

There are obvious reasons for the slightly slower first mile and then the rest looks reasonably constant bar for probably course variations - so it looks well paced.

    I'm not surprised you're thrilled!

Goody bag had a shampoo and conditioner (tea tree), a banana, medal, cetificated, few bits of paper - nothing too great...My mate lives 5 mins walk away, I can confirm he's got a lovely bathroom, but probably not a lot of use for the public generally. :)

Also picked up my race teeshirt yesterday, which was interesting - took 2 hours getting to Swansea from Bridgend (awful traffic) only to be told "we stopped sending them out this year because we worked out it saves you a pound!" woo...I'd rather have paid the pound :)

I took the first half mile a little gently just to warm up etc, which is probably why that was a little slow, plus I was being polite and following people - then I gave up, got up on the grass beside the road and started whomping past people...It was only around 7k I actually started running with people that were vaguely on my pace....

Was really struggling fom 8k on, couldn't keep sub-8 minutes, but frantically tried to limit the damage to the average speed, didn't feel like I had much left in me, then some guy on the side of the track yelled out "2 and a half minutes, people...500m to go...you can get under 50 minutes if you put your back into it" and that gave me a lift, then my gf, mates etc were at around 100m to go cheering me on and I think that gave me a push to the line...

On the event itself, if you could guarantee every race there being like today's, I think it would be the most popular race the country - sun shining, running along beside the sand, nice sea breeze - just about perfect conditions I reckon. Maybe 1 or 2 degrees cooler would've been slightly better, but I ain't gonna argue about it :)
