Yeah 2 hrs 20 is a good old chunk of the day. I would be more than happy to do that distance/time of walk if only I could get DD to walk too....think 8 miles may still be a little too long for her little legs at 3 yrs old (she is showing interest at coming running with mummy so trying to encourage that :D )

Well the Kenyans start young and it doesn't seem to them any harm!

Snaggles do they feel like your feet are being supported well and there is lots of cushion when you run?? Any idea what make and model they are?? Also worth getting some sorbatol (sp) rich will tell you what you need. You will probably need to invest in some new proper running shoes at some point and you should get a gait analysis done to make sure you get the right trainers
Thanks Sally - they're Puma, but I'm not sure what model. I've tried the Puma website, but they're a couple of years old, so there's nothing the same (although they look vaguely similar to the futurecat ones).

But Rich, they are really comfortable!

If they are comfortable then stick with them for time being. If you start to get knee pain/ankle or blisters then this is a sign that they might not be so suitable for running. Get some sorbitol for taking some of the impact off your knees and you should be ok for now.

And do the opposite of all these pushy parents who try to get houses nearest the best schools and pay through the nose to do so.

Instead, move further away and tell her to run to school - its about the norm for the kids in the Rift Valley.

For an average Kenyan school child, who makes two 7.5-kilometre round-trips to school each day (to .school in the morning and back home for lunch)

OK, this is what you need - far more important than the shoes themselves. That picture you saw of me in the London was wearing a £10 pair of running shoes BUT Sorbothane insoles.

Sounds like a good idea Rich..and to be honest the chance of me ever being able to afford a house full stop is pretty unlikley in this area

It is amazing though how they run 10 miles per day as the norm at a very young age. They produce world class distance runners by the bucket load and we don't.

There's a perception here that its dangerous for kids to run more than a very limited amount. Clearly not the case...

Thanks Rich - they start from a size 7 - can they be trimmed at all? Or am I being blind and missing the smaller sizes?

    Hi All,

A brief report on the Swansea 10k for me...Quite busy, quite exciting, sounds dumb, but there were *such a lot* of people there...and all running *way* slower than they shoulda been for the place they were starting - at time I felt like I was after rich's record - passed so many people. Anyway, here's a breakdown of the times according to my garmin (6.26 mile total):
    mile 1: 8:39
    mile 2: 7:53
    mile 3: 7:48
    mile 4: 7:26
    mile 5: 7:43
    mile 6: 8:13
    last little bit: 1:45

    total: 49:29

Obviously the official time might be a *little* different, but I'm hoping not too much...and 6 minutes off my PB on the garmin is *more* than good enough for me, anyway...absolutely thrilled :D
