Also picked up my race teeshirt yesterday, which was interesting - took 2 hours getting to Swansea from Bridgend (awful traffic) only to be told "we stopped sending them out this year because we worked out it saves you a pound!" woo...I'd rather have paid the pound
I took the first half mile a little gently just to warm up etc, which is probably why that was a little slow, plus I was being polite and following people - then I gave up, got up on the grass beside the road and started whomping past people...It was only around 7k I actually started running with people that were vaguely on my pace....
Was really struggling fom 8k on, couldn't keep sub-8 minutes, but frantically tried to limit the damage to the average speed, didn't feel like I had much left in me, then some guy on the side of the track yelled out "2 and a half minutes, people...500m to go...you can get under 50 minutes if you put your back into it" and that gave me a lift, then my gf, mates etc were at around 100m to go cheering me on and I think that gave me a push to the line...
On the event itself, if you could guarantee every race there being like today's, I think it would be the most popular race the country - sun shining, running along beside the sand, nice sea breeze - just about perfect conditions I reckon. Maybe 1 or 2 degrees cooler would've been slightly better, but I ain't gonna argue about it
Idio,
When you get the results just have a look at your position and where you are percentage wise in the field.
Once you're in the sub 50 min part of the race you don't have to worry about starting too near the front, you're not going to hinder anyone. Just be prepared to have one or two people coming past you early on and not reacting to them.
You may find another couple of minutes just by being in your rightful starting position.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Well done Idio :T
I have nothing much to report since Friday, apart from drinking too much wine and getting sunburnt, neither of which are particularly relevant!Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -

Its all very relevant...I seem to write anything but about running on here at the moment!I'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....

Ah you see for me (shows you I'm not a proper/hardcore runner) the goody bag is just as important as getting around the race!! The Bristol goody bag was pants as considering entry was around £30 (Yes I know the cost of entry has no real relevance to whats in the goody bag!)
Not so sure if we have a club run here next year your mate be happy with us all invading his toilet! Nothing worse than having to queue half an hour for toilets before a raceI'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. Morning!
I've been running! :j :j :j
No adverse effects, probably a little more breathless than I have been up until getting ill, and my legs were certainly a bit heavier to start with. Set off from home about 8.45am, ran to school with Ryan (who complained quite a lot but managed to run all the way too), got there at 8.55am to drop him off, left school at 9am, ran a longer way home and have just got in, so that's 25 mins in total, 15 of which were without stopping (and mainly uphill ).
Feel so great I want to go and do it again!"I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -
Hi all
THought I would report in after the 10K yesterday. Well done Idiophreak - unfourtunately mine was not as good... although am more positive today!!
I made a fatal error of leaving it too long to start queuing for the loos and didn't get a chance to gowhich meant I started the race with a rather too full bladder! Doh!!! Anyhow I also positioned myself around the hour mark at the start as didn't want to hold anyone up.
Went off nice and slow (no choices was trapped by others) got to 5KM feeling great. Had some water oops and tried to get on with it. From 6KM onwards had to stop at least a dozen times to cross my legs I was so desperate for the loo  !!
Anyhow despite all got over the finish line I think around the 57 - 58 minute mark. I don't wear a watch, it upsets me so will have to wait and see. The official thing said 58:40 so around that or better.
Was very frustrating to make such a basic mistake but you live and learn. On the positive side (aside from the loo situation) I felt really strong and could have happily gone on, after a quick wee of course lol!
Have entered the 5KM 'Big Fun Run' next Sunday in Bute Park to try and cheer myself up.

Poodlecrazy, to achieve that whilst in such an...er....compromised position is fantastic! :T
Mistake aside, it sounds like a positive race for you, if you felt really strong. Good luck next Sunday."I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -
Well done Poodle, as Snaggles says that's a really good time when you're not entirely comfortable!
