That's a point! How come you aren't knocking back pints of scrumpy instead of this 'bubbles up the nose' stuff? :p

Yay - bring on the champagne! :D (I'm not averse to the odd cider though....)

Thanks for the nice comments re the marathon - I've told people (even 'real life' ones) about it now so I'm committed!

  • Its getting a little confusing for my limited brain capabilities to keep track of who's planning to do what in terms of races. And since the number of people seems to be expanding like an American's waistline I think it is probably a good idea to keep a running schedule with outline plans and then, as specific races are entered, updated accordingly. So far:

    2008
Sept 14th Bristol 1/2 Marathon Sally
    Sept 21st Swansea 10k Idiophreak
Sept 28th Hampton Court 10k Angela

    Novemb 5k race (TBA) Redsquizzer

    2009
Jan 10th Disneyworld 1/2 Marathon Boomdocker
    Jan/Feb 10k race (TBA) Redsquizzer

April 26th THE LONDON MARATHON Herewegoagain
Mar/Apr 1/2 marathon race (TBA) Redsquizzer

    May 31st Edinburgh Marathon Redsquizzer

Aug Marathon race (TBA) Rich (Steve) (Berlin or Mablethorpe possibles)

Oct Great North Run Rich (Steve)

Now everyone has got some sort of plan, however vague, so lets get them all in one place and keep the list updated and then we know what we've got to look forward to! So come on, throw your plans at me.........

Wow there's lots to read in here, 68 pages!! Just found you by chance and am looking for some advice. I am running (!) a half marathon with a friend in January at DisneyWorld Florida. I have been doing some light training and expect to be a jogger/walker. Don't laugh but I have no clue what to wear at all, tops or bottoms. I hate the thought of running in shorts!! I know I need a running shoe but what would you guys recommend. Thanks for reading.

Just remember not all shorts are "running shorts" - I run in regular gym-wear shorts, never much above the knee....then there's only 8 inches of flesh on show between there and the top of my socks. I'd probably recommend wearing shorts and a nice light running top - I presume it'll be warmish in florida by then - do you know the expected temp?

Just checked and it seems you should be good for 10-25c temperature wise, so you shouldn't really need more than one layer...

Doesn't the Biathlon involve cross country skiing and shooting?! Maz's training is certainly taking an interesting direction:rotfl:

    isn't that a pent-athlete?!? or a decathlete!!!

i'm sure duathlete is a proper term....

Hi Boomdocker - I think the most important thing is to run in what you're comfortable in. How about leggings if you don't want to wear shorts? Whatever you wear make sure you've trained in it and it doesn't rub anywhere! If you're female you definitely want to check out the sports bra advice a couple of pages ago! As for shoes, it's worth going to a running shop to get an assessment - even if you go on to buy them cheaper elsewhere ;) I know a few people on here highly recommend the New Balance trainers, I haven't tried them myself.
