I agree with that. Its not a special race – I had planned on doing a couple of 10Ks is august/september time but having chatted with my friend last night I decided to take the plunge and get myself motivated sooner rather than later. I usually plan to exercise at least every other day so its not too out of the ordinary. Will be good to have a reason not to miss a session though – im a bit too easily distracted sometimes. I know I will get round so I’m not too worried, just intent to train sensibly for the next 2 weeks to maximise my performance.

Am taking stepDs cycling in the woods tonight (well they are cycling, I’m running!!)

Every other day will be fine. Variety is the key. You are right to do some cross training. Try and vary your routes too as well as your distances and intensities. I submitted to a post on this earlier - I think it is on page 2. Try and avoid any serious running in the couple of days before the event.

Just take it easy, build up to it slowly and remember to stretch before you go out. Also try to do a reccy of the route before hand so if there are any nasty hills you can practice them before the day.

Good luck KAZL for tonight let us know how you get on hon!!

    Go P Go!!!! :j

Have come back from my run and feel achey but good :j

Did 3.25 miles in 31 mins - not a brilliant time however our "easy 30 min run" encountered the following:-

    (i) 2 (yes 2!) hills of at least 45 degree angle - I kid you not and one of those was at least 3/4 of a mile
(ii) two files - one in mouth, one in eye
    (iii) wee stop
    (iv) stray sheep
    (v) 3 styals (is that the way it's spelt) as in the one you jump over

So quite an adventurous run for us, very hard on the thighs but we tried to speed up on the last half mile which was flat.

The problem we have is our area is so hilly we struggle to get any flat runs so we are always tackling hills!

Bath is running now and so will go off to relax shortly :D

Hello all, wow I don't read the posts for one day and there's been loads going on except with me. I teach on Tuesdays so always finish later than normal however also after dinner I have been to my parents, done some washing and been to the shops. This is the first I've sat down all day. So no run for me am gutted coz I really wanted to go today but never mind there's the lovely speed work to look forward to tomorrow!

pania - I'll have a look through my RW mags to see if I can find any articles, otherwise I'll look on their website for you about speed work. Will let you know and well done on your runs.

seaxwyn - I have to agree that having proper running trainers made a big difference to me, I have quite large feet for a lady (size 7) and broad as well and when I went along to the local running shop the assistant recommended that I try mens trainers half a size bigger as your feet need the room to expand. Well they've been brilliant and didn't cost a lot of money.

redsquirrel80 - hope you're feeling better soon, don't start too soon though else you'll not recover fully.

FMOW - I'm doing the Run for All in Leeds too!! I always get nervous leading up to an event, DH is running as well but he'll leave me and run off.

BA - excellent run this evening, I can't get away from hills either and I get jelly legs!

    I promise i will run tomorrow :)

Yeeeoooowwww argh argh argh oweeeeeeeeeeee!!! god that felt good!!

Was tough as just getting back into it. sitting at desk all sweaty and hot but love the feeling when you know it's through exercise!! J:T ust got my breath back and contemplating a bath. Stopped in the country park and did some tricep dips and push ups just for varieties sake!!

BA that run sounds great and you are going great guns. :T yuk to the flies though!! Wish we had some proepr hills round here as can't train properly for any hilly runs. also as there is no respite on a nice down hill bit.

Evab, don't worry always tomorrow, you've done great so far so one night off won't hurt.;)

SW have you been out yet? if not why not huh!!:p

Redsquirrel. welldone on the walking hon, thats a great start. but don't push it to soon. just hop down the road for few hundred yard sand back to see how you feel. stay close to home first time out in case you feel dizzy. (don't literally hop is a figure of speech!!:rotfl: )

Thanks for supporting the thread guys and keep it going. I'm glad we've had a motivational push to some people and remembered there are other things to keep us entertained than MSE!! (dare i say it:rotfl: )

Get you doing push ups - go woman :j I love that feeling too - am now in my pj's, a few pieces of chocolate and watching gorgeous Gordon - happy with the knowledge I've done some exercise.

When are you next planning a run - I'm at a training course tomorrow night so it will be Thursday morning now - 6am is the intention
