Went out for a run this morning. Got a new fancy gizmo that tells me how far I'm running and at what pace. 6.58km this morning in 32'01" so pace is 4'51" a km. It's given me some confidence for the Nike 10k race (never done one before!). Need to start pushing the distance a bit (think that's the longest I've done so far), but I think I'm on target for getting round in under an hour.

Just bumping this up. Went for the same run again today, about 6.5km in around 32-33 mins. Going to Dublin tonight to see me ma for the weekend so am going to give running a miss for the next two days.

Well done on the weight loss Penguintron and (Land of) Maz. I've lost a fair bit of weight since I started, don't know how much as I don't have scales, but my clothes are loose and I need an extra hole putting in my belt!

Don't worry too much about dieting LoM, the only thing I've done is cut out the beer except on rare occasions and drink wine or spirits instead when I'm out. Diet is much the same, but the running is shedding the pounds.

Forgot to update when i came in.... went out for 30minutes tonight.

Feeling rather chipper, enjoyed the long hot bath afterwards more!!

Where is everyone these days? Where are jelly babies, cnoelj and southwester to name a few??
    Sorry Miss! :D

Just got a new computer after my previous one died on me.

Training steadily rather than hard after completing the Southend half marathon on June 8.

I am back on line and will be reporting in regularly again.

Noticed that there are some new faces, which is good and people are working hard, which is also good

Are you insinuating that i'm bossy?!!! Not as bossy as that Sally one! She's always on our case!

And isn't it nice to know you were missed chris!!!!

So tell us all about the Southend half... times details etc!
Was planning a run tomorrow with runchum but tomorrow is the last day of my holidays and am taking Erin to see Kung Fu Panda instead, 2-4-1 tickets from Orange Wednesday of course. May force myself out on my own tomorrow daytime to assuage the guilt....

Since RFL on 22nd June have only ran once a week......... (have walked miles mind you while on holiday!) Still, must try harder!

Further to not doing anything re the above, which was on wednesday... i have been good... on thursday i went out on my bike for a 3.5 mile cycle..

Then today me n runchum went out for a run, 2 miles with no stops... plodding pace but it's the being out that counts, isn't it?!

It was a change of course this year. Previously it had been in the countryside around Southend. The new course was two laps including the seafronts of Shoeburyness and Southend. Good to have a change but I do prefer one lap. I remember coming across a club mate at the end of the first lap and he remarked that we have to do the same again

Oh it was one of our few days of summers this year, starting warm and getting hotter.

Last year I finished in 2 hours and 34 seconds. That happens to me so often - missing a land mark by seconds. I was determined to beat 2 hours and was pleased to cross the finishing line in 1:59:19. As the furthest I had run since the London Marathon was eight miles I was quite satisfied.

I am going to get 6 or 7 miles in this morning.

Welcome back Chris, we missed you! :hello: :T And well done on the half marathon, great time.

I'm still being pretty useless :o Don't think there's any way I can do a 10k at the start of Sept, especially when I'm away on holiday for two weeks

    Thank you for you welcome.:D

How about running on holiday. Ooops what is that flying in my direction towards my head!

Sometimes I do a race even if I feel I am not ready and treat it as a training run. It is always fun and with the pressure off, the time may suprise you

Well done on the time Chris!!! Even though you're annoyed you missed out on 2hours, well we won't tell if you don't!!

I couldn't imagine anything worse than doing more than 1 lap of any course. Psychologically i think it would kill me!!!!!!!!!

.... somehow running out a course then back is okay, which is similar i guess. but somehow is more do-able.

Me n Erin went out on our bikes again this afternoon... 3.5miles! Are you proud of me guys!??

Squizzer, I think you would manage the 10k no bother, even if you do a combination of run/walk. I suppose it depends on the kind of race and how many elite athletes there are... i.e. if everyone comes in in less than 35-40 minutes, and you feel like you are holding people up by plodding along. Check and see if there is a mixed field of ability... or if you are doing it with some like minded people so you know you won't be alone!!

When i did my one and only 10k in 2004, me n runchum were very near the end of the pack, but not completely last, so didn't feel too bad. And there was a marathon on that day, which started before us, but apart from the very front runners, they were all after us so the organisers/stewards etc were all still there.

Maz - I think it will be pretty mixed, I just seem to have really struggled to get back into running properly, I guess the month I have once I get back from hols should be enough to get me into reasonable shape to at least finish it even if it's not a great time. Oh and yes, very proud of you! :D

Chris - I wouldn't mind running on holiday, may try and get a few in. The friend I'm going with is trying to get fit at the mo too so will probably be up for it. Only problem is that we're not staying in one place for very long so it could be a little hard to work out where to go!

I will give it some thought...
