Good luck with that. I am hoping for all our sakes it is not as muggy tomorrow as it has been here in London today.

You have a running partner. That makes life so much easier. Look forward to reading your report. I will be reporting on my half Marathon

Good luck tomorrow - let us know how you get on. Hope it clears up and its not too hot either. I love running in the rain, but not when it's humid!!

Do you think 5 runs a week is too much to train for a half marathon, it suggests 2 x 30 mins easy, 2 x 30 mins with hill runs and a long one at a slow pace - I was also going to do some weights?

I would personally just do one of the hill runs. If you want to keep the weekly milage up you could consider gradually increasing some of the other runs to 40 or 45 minutes. Doing too many days can be counter productive as far as motivation is concerned. This may be even more important if you plan to do some weights work. You may also like to consider swapping the occassional easy run with some cross training. Swimming, cycling or rowing machine at the gym for example.

Oh and people often advise not to run the whole distance in training. For example for a half marathon, run say 11 miles in training. This means that you are holding something back for the day. The worst thing you can do is peak before the day. I have heard many people say that they had their best run a week before their event.

Right, i've slacked off for a couple of weeks but seeing the popularity of this thread has inspired me to get back on the road! (and that i chatted to a friends ysterday who wants a running partner but currently does 8.5min miles!!!)

Will go out in the morning for a slow 5 miles and report back

hiya, reporting in for day 3...

I ran 1.4 miles again yesterday - 17 mins. I did it at 8am rather than 5am so there were more people and traffic around. I will definitely aim to get out early in future as I like that "alone in the world" feeling.

When I got home I cleaned the kitchen This combination of running and cleaning is really cheering me up!

Then in the afternoon I walked up Box Hill - a steep climb - and after that my thighs felt like steel! Today I'm pretty stiff so having read the posts above about rest days, I'm not going to run today.

Good luck in the half marathon today cnoelj!

Seaxwyn, you really are putting me to shame. Well done on what you have done so far.

I took Pania's tip and got my running stuff ready to jump into as soon as I got out of bed this morning, with the intention of doing a couple of miles, but I did a bit of yoga last thing yesterday and my backside and my thighs protested somewhat at being made to get out of bed.

So running off the menu today, but will do some more yoga to get these muscles working a bit.

Hope everyone who is pounding the pavements today has a good one!

  • Morning all!

Wow, you're all doing fantastically. I promised I'd report back after my bodyblast session on Friday; and I have just one thing to say ..

    Aaaaaaaoooooooowwwwwww. Eeeeeeeeeee. oooooooooohhhaaaaaaahhhh.

(well that's three things, but all equally valid.) I REALLY hurt. I can't completely straighten my legs as my hamstrings are so tight and I can't straighten my haiir because I ca't life my arms behind my head. Apart from that I feel fab.

I'm going back on Monday and then to a class on wednesday which promises to tighten my bottom and reduce my waist.

RE the seagull thing, I left our bedroom window open yesterday and a swallow got in and couldn't find the way out past the curtains. I felt really concerned about it at the time, but then found out it pooed everywhere including on my newly painted walls and my childhood teddy bear.

Cleaning today as not fit for much else! Hope you all have a nice run this morning and aren't too stiff.

Seaxwyn, your doing fantastically well, three mornings, wow, and you've become a cleaning demon to. Exercise really lifts my mood and motivates me to keep going for the day. Glad it's making you feel the same.

  • Morning everyone - Wow everyone is doing really well and it really motivates me reading the thread.

I was up and out by 8am and back running with my best friend :j According to our new training plan we had to do an easy 70 mins run  but our route took us 64 mins in fact and we did 6.5miles. Hips hurt, thighs hurt, stomach hurt but I feel great :D

Having a rest day tomorrow, friend has been on holiday for 2 weeks so it was tough going. We are running 30 mins on Tuesday and Weds morning then 45 mins on Thurs evening. We are in Wales together next weekend so will try some beach runs *ouch*. Decided to try and do more morning runs as it's hard fitting runs in with full time work, young children and sleep, so we shall see how it goes.

DJ - euk to the seagull - hate birds but in the house I think I would be hysterical

Hypno - yoga is better than nothing, did you enjoy your night in alone - I love being on my own!

Seaxwyn - well done, you are so right about it being theraputic. I am feeling fab now, apparently its all the endorhpins (??) and is excellent remedy for depression. I had slight PND after DS was born and running soon shifted it. I love runned with my bf too, it means we get to catch up and spend time together, which is difficult when we both have young children and jobs and husbands

findingmyownway - welcome aboard and look forward to hearing how you get on.

cnoelj - good luck in the race, will be watching to see how you get on
evab - your husband is right re time rather than distance, that's what we thought when we did a slow pace this morning, that and the fact that everyone else was in bed. It's also the lovely mutual respect when you see other runners out and they say hello :T

I love this thread, getting fit, feeling better and it's all free

    Have a lovely day everyone:T
  • Hi P, well done on getting out running even though you're not technically "home". Hope you are having a lovely weekend
