    Hello all hallo.gif
I want to start running properly, I joined the gym a couple of months ago and I go on the treadmill for 15 minutes and do combination of running and walking. I usually run for around 11-12 minutes but have managed the full 15 minutes 3 times in the last two weeks.
I'm planning on joining the gyms running club in a couple of months, then hopefully building up to the local half marathon next May (I don't think I'll manage this May!)

Got any tips for a novice runner?

    Hi raphael

Just a question. Why are you putting off joining the running club for a couple of months. The sooner you do it the sooner you will see more rapid progress. It is the same advise I am giving Sally and JB. Join the running club you will enjoy it and benefit from it

No real excuses!!I guess I wanted to be able to run a bit more before I signed up. I have a problem with my shifts too, I'm on a rolling rota so might not be able to go every week.
I'm not sure why I'm waiting. I have my review on Thursday with my gym instructor (been chasing him for 2 weeks for my first gym review) I will ask him if he thinks I'm ready then.

Hi guys. I actually did go along and introduce myself to the man who leads the slowest group at my local running club. He said they usually run for about 45 minutes. As the longest I have run so far is 30 mins (and that included a few walking bits) I have decided to run on my own until I know I can stay the distance. But he was very friendly and welcoming. He also gave me a club vest, which made me feel ridiculously proud.

Yeah and it only gives me the one that seems to be for children. I will pop into the sports centre tomorrow and see if they have any notices up or I shall ask at reception.

Try 'athletics club' as well. Mine is called Athletics Club, but they don't do anything other than running.
