Hi guys and girls can I join you.
I took up road running on Christmas eve having not been for about 6 years. 6 months after cancelling my gym membership and doing very little exercise I decided it was the only free form of exercise available and beggars cant be choosers. I was thinking about taking it up in the spring when the weather is warmer but decided that this would be the perfect excuse to get me out of bed now that life has shut down for Xmas.
Anyway, so Id like to join you all if you'll have me please. I think this could be a good place to keep me motivated as tbh, it takes quite a lot of effort to get me out the front door on a cold morning. But I feel better for it already and it sets me up for the day really well. Once Im out there I really enjoy it and hoping I will even more when my fitness returns.
Am off to read through this thread (read the first and last page sof ar so apologies for my ignorance!).0 -
been poorly me again so no exercise been done, left with an annoying cough and wheezyness so starting out again today with a gentle wander with the as yet unsold DP.
Sadly it is far far to cold for topless running today, although it makes me feel strangely liberated, and if i get tired half way round i can guarantee the local police establishment will happily offer me a lift in their car, followed by a lie down and smething to eat. very kind of them.!!!!

Happy New Year Running Mates and welcome to Sassamac - join the madness. Only just arrived back in London after a Christmas break in Lincolnshire. And I haven't been lazy, plenty of running including participating in the Cleethorpes New Years Day 10k. Not a brilliant time but it all counts towards my build up to the London Marathon. Hoping to do 80 or 90 minutes tomorrow as I gradually build up my long runs.“The primary cause of unhappiness is never the situation but your thoughts about it.” Eckhart Tolle0

Happy New Year Cnoelj! Good to hear you are getting ready.
I am following the Garmin London Marathon training plan but unfortunately today feel I hit a bit of a downer. Am doing 20 - 25 miles per week over 5 runs which seems to be working well, particularly as DH is running with me and making me pick my pace up. We did 8 miles today but I hated it ALL the way and I was thinking negative thoughts the whole run about how rubbish I was. On the last 3 miles DH hung back and stuck with me and I did a lot better but really not sure I am cut out for 26 miles now  The only benefit of today was completing 8 miles in 75 mins which is a record time for me, but it did hurt! Have a rest day tomorrow so time to lick my moaning wounds and get back on to it on Tuesday.
Any positive things I can do to get over the negativity I push myself into? I know I really do need to join a running club, but I just need to find someone to go with me for the first time, will do a bit of begging with best friend me thinks!!
Ah well, 14 weeks to do to get my !!! seriously into gear :eek:0 -
I've done absolutely hee-haw running, but have promised that this is the year the additional stone on my backside is going, so back to pounding the pavements again in a desperate effort to regain my youth. In 2004, I completed a marathon in 4 hrs 20, and stopped running! I knew I wanted to do at least one in life, so I did. Now, I'd be happy to be able to run for 4 or 5 miles and not feel things flapping. Am I the only one who feels their bum still jiggling around 5 mins after they stop running?!
I've lost 9 lbs in 4 months without really exercising, so I'm sure once I'm back in the swing of that, the wibbly wobbly bits will disappear and I'll feel a bit less self-conscious out running.
Although, topless running is quite a way off for me!Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!0 -
BA don't feel down through one bad run hon, how about dropping the mileage down for a week then picking it back up after? it may be that you are physically tired without realising it. (helloooo by the way!!)
Bathgate i'm with you on the no running, this bloomin flu has really scuppered me plans, but the cough is going now so hoping to be able to get back out for a gentle jog at some point over the next few days.
good luck guys and run run run!!!debt @05/11/11 £12210.63!! slowly chipping away!!:heart2:impossible is nothing.:heart2:0 -
Morning all
Pania is right BA, we all have bad runs but the feeling of a good run makes up for it, keep going, remember its the finishing that counts not the time!
Ran for 2 hrs 20mins yesterday covering 14.5 miles, my longest run to date, felt crap to start then got better and better as run went on and finished quite strong. Sunday afternoon was a no-goer though, was knackered when I stopped and ached all over including my backside!! Slept well though and feel good again today
That was my first full week of running 4 times a week and up to a total of 34 miles so chuffed to bits, next Sunday it is 16 miles
Keep going everyone22/07/07 Debt - Tesco 17644 (6.1%) - Now 10500

Cheers P and SW, I am having a day off today and SW I will join you with the sore bottom
Am going for a gentle swim, sauna and jacuzzi tonight and then back to some running tomorrow. Wish I could do 14 miles in 2hrs 20 that's fab!!
Also starting a diet today to lose half a stone as I think that might help, can already feel those chocolate cravings!!
