Hello all. Glad to see this club is still going and you are doing marvellously. Southwester, that anniversary must feel special after the year you've had.

I'm looking for some advice. After taking up running this summer, and getting to be able to run for 25 minutes, I have not run at all for about six weeks.

So to give myself a goal I have entered a 3 mile race one month from now - 16 December.

Any tips on a training programme to get me from not running at all to being able to run 3 miles in one month in 30 days?

The run is around a local park - there will be some steep ascents and probably very muddy parts too.

You will not have lost as much fitness as you think and a month is more than sufficient time to run a very satisfying event at that distance. You are not starting from the very beginning. Very far from it

If you do three times a week targeting around your previous 25 minutes will be good. If you do the first week or so at a much slower pace do not worry. Consistency is better than working on speed at this time.

Can you get a map of the course in advance? If so try and run the course. However do not run it at the pace you would on the day.

If you can't get a map try and run a more hilly route once a week before the event. Again do not try and run it all out. Always leave your best performances for designated events.

Consider your diet and ensure you keep well hydrated.

    Good luck.

  • Weighed myself for the past few days and the half a stone that's came off is staying off - it's not been a freak result but appears to have actually happened! And there's a visible difference too in that I've had to move my belt notch in. All this without too much effort too - well chuffed. Will be starting back at the gym this week (after a damaged back) so will surely see another move!

The target was for a stone by Xmas (set in mid-Sept) so hopefully I'll mae it
Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!
  • Thank you Sea yep it was.

Injured at the moment, picked up a lump on top of foot, no stress fracture or anything as have had it x rayed, but annoying that I cant run.

Hope all running well, whats happended to Pania and BlackAngel on this thread?

  • Hey Sea

all you can do is build it up gradually, try running twice a week, 2 miles should be OK and then slowly increase it, walk a little if you have to and next time try not to walk at that same point - Good luck

you HAD to bump it didn't you SW, just to make me feel bad!!!

OK, so I am feeling better, so time to get back out there, fast walking to start with as i need to find where i'm at if you like.

I have a stone to loose, eep.

So i'd best get my slightly wider than usual botty into gear and get those pounds off!!!! maybe by end of January i'll be back to my ideal weight.

    Please oh please oh please!!!
