Hey everyone ! :) I just listed quite a few DVD's on Amazon. What are people's experience with selling DVD's on Marketplace? I listed them at a pretty low price - but not too low to undercut the lowest, but I can't really imagine many people buying them from there as opposed to say, eBay...

Thanks for that query, Marka. I was going to ask whether anyone had experience selling DVDs on Amazon as I've got loads in perfect condition and don't want to sell them at one of my boot sales unless I have to as people expect to snap them up for a giveaway price:eek:. I've gone off eBay recently!
  • I don't sell dvd's on Amazon but I do sell VHS, puzzles and mostly books.

I have found that the customer base on Amazon is different to that on Ebay, and for that reason you can sell items at a higher price.

I think some buyers distrust Ebay and prefer the greater buyer protection offered by the Amazon A-Z guarantee.

Other places with different customer bases include Play.com and Ebid.co.uk.

I sell items on both of these sites and they are free to list, you pay fees when you sell.

Ive sold a few DVDs but they were niche market sort of stuff, (foreign horror) they went from £8 up to £20+ but only once in a blue moon, the postage allowance is only about £1.24 aswell so you have to watch that is its a double dvd etc ......

Ah thanks! Well the main thing which attracted me to Amazon to sell them is that you don't pay fees unless you sell the item (unlike eBay where you could lose money before you even start!), and you can name your price (which as you mentioned is often higher than eBay). I guess I'll leave them up and see what happens when the 60-days comes! I also listed some Xbox games but I'm not sure how good these sell on there either really... time will tell! :)

marka87uk..you can get an indication as to how likely a DVD is to sell by looking at the ranking, it isn't foolproof of course as you don't have previous history of prices so it might be that several 1p copies were sold that caused a run on the rankings. However it is worth checking as too low a ranking probably means it isn't worth the bother. (I'm into rankings at the moment..and by factoring them into my listing prices I seem to be doing slightly better).

If you want to try ebay then you can at least check if any have been sold in the past 30 days. Also on ebay the listing fees for media are reduced, starting at 5p for a DVD under 99p, but the final value fees percentage has gone up.

    Hi Mishka

Your sales may not be as bad as you think. I have some stuck in payments processing since last night.

I've copied this from the Amazon Discussion Board so you can have a look and see if you have any stuck.

You can find your orders 'stuck' in processing by:
    1) clicking on 'view your Amazon Payments account and billing history'
    2) clicking on 'view recent Payments and transactions and invoicing history'
    3) logging in
    4) selecting the bottom choice 'Narrow search by Status:' with 'payment processed' as the drop down.

I've had the same problem since last night I recevied an e-mail from a customer trying to change his address and could'nt find the order anywhere and thought it was another phishing e-mail

Since then I've had two more books in my "open" list change in quantity to 0 although I've received no sold/pending e-mail.

OK, I'm now having to cut and paste my messages as I can't seem to
    Post anything on MSE today..
Anyway, I’ve just followed these instructions and lo I have a book sold yesterday that doesn’t appear on my closed items or in my pending file. By the time I find it and pack it I’ll have missed the post office. I better not get bad feedback for the delay when this is Amazon’s fault as I can’t now post it until tomorrow.

well I found some - thanks for that - but what can we do? Contact the customer and apologise for the delay before we get rubbish feedback? Or do they already know as the payment hasn't gone through yet?
