Super, glad I saw this as I have been deliberating over claiming compensation.
I had a delayed flight two weeks ago in which I arrived 19 hours late with my two children. I was thinking I could claim for my non-refundable Disney hotel and car hire that I lost as we weren't there, plus food I had to buy whilst waiting, but it appears that I can claim for much more so thankyou, I'm going to give it a go.
I'm more annoyed with the airline staff tbh as they knew as we were sat waiting to board that we wouldn't reach our final destination for at least 19 hours later than we were due to, and could have prevented so much stress if we had just gone home and come back the next day or got us onto another flight sooner. My son could see online that it was saying our flight was delayed, plus the fact that the plane hadn't actually arrived at the airport (tiny airport where you can see everything coming and going) was a dead giveaway!

What happens in it was BMI baby as they are no longer in operation? We were delayed nearly 23 hours, stuck in the airport the whole time! Apparently the original problem was a cracked window screen! Awful experience with 3 children! I originally tried to claim compensation from the airline but they said it wasn't their responsibility to pay compensation and we should go to our insurance company!

If less than 6 years ago your claim should now go to BA so post on that thread if you have any questions after reading the guides.
  • Hi all hope someone can advise. we flew to Cyprus 2011 booked by a family member (no longer speaking) 2 of them and 4 of us. however can I leave them off the part that asks people in your booking? not out of malice or claiming on their behalf. as I would like to advise them if mine goes well. if anyone else has done this or knows of someone and can advise me please. also we believed that we flew home with Cyprus Airlines but I happened to find the kids ticket stubs and it says Viking Hellas Airlines so do I send the claim form to them?

Viking Hellas went bust. So if you flew with them as the operating air carrier, then you have no claim. If you definitely booked tickets with Cyprus Airlines, and they "wet leased" the airplane (unlikely if you have Viking Boarding Passess) you might do.

There is no problem with only claiming for some of your party. But I actually don't think you have a claim, because I suspect your operating airline went bust.
  • What are the legitimate reasons an airline can say...
'was delayed due to operational circumstances outside British Airways' control, which prevented the aircraft operating as scheduled' ... so blocking compensation?

There are lots - too many to give you an exhaustive list. But BA should tell you specifically what the problem is - and if they don't it is likely because they know it's not really an extraordinary circumstance. You will most likely need to take them to court though to get them to cough up. Have a read of my guide (below) if not seen already.

Is anyone else finding that airlines are taking longer than agreed to pay compensation?

I received an email from EasyJet on 30th September confirming that I was due 800 euros for a 4.5 hour delay from Lisbon to Gatwick for two passengers, and that it would be paid within 15-20 working days from then.

However, I'm yet to receive it, despite confirming my bank details and sending several emails and Twitter messages.

    Very frustrating!
  • How do claimants get evidence of boarding passes etc if they no longer have them?
