Compensation for delayed flights Discussion Area

Hi
We were booked on a jet 2 flight out of Alicante to Manchester in July 2010, and 2 days before we were due to fly home we were told we had a 7 hr 5 minutes delay. This meant finding accomodation for another night.
I know getting compensation out of Jet2 appears difficult anyway, but do I have grounds for a claim?
Any help appreciated0 -

What was the reason given for the delay.0 -
Thanks for the advice.
The email said 'operational constraints' and moved from 20.40 to 03.45. Thats all they said.0 -
Hi,
Having just sent a letter to Ryanair for compensation I was wondering if one airline seems to be better at paying out than another. Who's best/worst?
I understand that it would take far too long to equate all this information but I just thought someone might have a general idea. Such as Ryanair could be known for bad payers etc.
Any ideas, just for curiosity sake.
Thanks Sue0 -

This is my perceived order from bad to better....
1) Monarch
2) Thomas Cook
3) Jet2
4) Thomson
5) Virgin
6) Ryanair
7) EasyJet
8) BA0 -
That's really interesting to know your feelings. I would have thought it would have been the cheaper brands that were least likely to pay out, such as Ryanair or airlines with a bad reputation generally.
Let's hope your right, my claim is against Ryanair, I'm not holding my breath though.
Thanks

Ryanair tend not to have as many delays as the firms mentioned above them for a start so a lesser percentage of income to pay out. They also have a 2.50€ levy per person per flight so have oodles in the 'kitty' (is this really for 261/2004 Mr O'Leary?) plus often cases are bought in the UK or another part of the EU to Ireland meaning defence can be difficult/costly for them.0

I have been told I cant get any compensation becuase the plane having engine failure was an 'exceptional circumstances'. and they are 'in-line' with CAA guidelines.
I'm sure I read somewhere that technical breakdowns were NOT exceptional circumstances?
Should I send the next letter about taking it to the CAA?
Advice please!0 -
